Duckin' Rig

My buddy and i have been sifting through tons of material, specs, and likes/dislikes about boats and motors the last month because we're in the market for a new combo for the upcoming season. We've been contemplating on exactly what we want and what would fit us best. Checked out MudBuddy, Go Devil and ProDrive motors; Gator Trax, ProDrive, Excel, and Legend Craft boats. Man this is almost like work, lol. . . . just tryin' to make the right decision.

As things stand now, we've decided on an 1854 Gator Trax Guide Edition with the Hunt Deck for a boat. Leaning toward the new 36hp ProDrive about to come out for the motor. What do you guys think? Sound like a duck killin' machine?

Plan on having the open hull design with one rear pod seat and a gun box. Extended deck with the gas and battery storge under it. Custom rack for easy deployment and retrieval of the layout boat. Also going to have a dog step on the hunt deck so he wouldnt be filing the boat w/ water any more. Hopefully we'll be pulling it home before the end of May, whatever it ends up being. grin.gif

Re: Duckin\' Rig

Alright, just got off the phone w/ my buddy. We were stearing toward ProDrive b/c of the gears they use to run the prop, liked that idea more than the belts. Now just got off the phone w/ the MudBuddy guy in G-ville, threw in a few more things to think about. . . may be pushing it w/ a MudBuddy now. Looking at the 35hp w/ the kit pushing it up to a 42hp. They dont actually make at 45 hp motor, its the 35 w/ high performance muffler = 42hp. They can rebuild and put different R.arms and such. . . thats how they get the 45hp.

Re: Duckin\' Rig

Alright, the order is in. . . . it'll be a Gator Trax 1850 with the hunt deck, extended front deck w/ hatch, 7 foot dry/gun box on the left and one rear pod on the back right for storage and a seat when driving, plugs put in all boxs in case water gets in the boxes, pointed bow rather than the standard squared off bow, gas tank bracket under front deck extension, mounted spotlights on the front, rest of the boat will be wide open design. We'll be pushing it w/ the 35hp hyper w/ the high performance package bumping it up to a 42hp, electric tilt/trim and tact. All this on a 20 foot excel trailor. Umm Umm

Re: Duckin\' Rig

lilhunter, no need for a low profile boat when ya got one of these! grin.gif356929.jpg

You can practically vanish in the decoys miles from anything when you snuggle down in this ole boy! grin.gif373134.jpg

We're going the opposite route to get a boat w/ higher sides to handle the rough open water w/ tons of decoys and layout boats aboard. grin.gif

Re: Duckin\' Rig

We rode/drove a rig Sunday that is going to be similar to ours, it was a 1750 Gator Trax with the 35hp upgraded to the 45hp. It was a nice get-up and would really move. Getting right at 30 mph. It'll run in the shallows really well but did notice it didnt seem quite as good as our long tail when put in the sticky unless you have the boat on plane when you hit it, then nothing slowing it down. Were hitting stumps at 25mph and kept on moving. I think we're going to be very satisfied.
