Guest Jeremiah_Johnson
Had to reposition 6 times, but it was worth it. Took this Martin County, Indiana bird this morning at 7:00am with my Mathews Switchback, GT arrow tipped with NAP Gobble Stopper broadhead. Slammed him at 5 yards, knocking him 3 yards sideways and he never moved; broken wing, lung cut in half and off hip disjointed. 23.5lbs, 32mm spurs and 11.5" beard. Squirrelhunter91
Re: My 2006 Bow with my Switchback Congrats on the bird!! 5 yards? Wow that's awefully close!! Also, why does Indiana make you guys use the metric system for the spurs??

Guest Jeremiah_Johnson
Re: My 2006 Bow with my Switchback Not sure why the metric system on spurs...I think that works out to an inch and a quarter...maybe closer to an inch and 5/16 - limb hangers to you and me, LOL. Some folks have looked at the picture and assumed I didn't use a blind, but I did indeed use an Ameristep doghouse blind. The bow is standing upright because I use a bowpod in the blind to keep my bow ready and slip it off when the bird's coming in. The bowpod also makes it nice for the pictures too, IMHO. Here's a picture of the blind: http://www.huntingpictures.net/photo/005824.jpg Here's the Mathews Promo-shot: http://www.huntingpictures.net/photo/005826.jpg As for the photos, I use a Nikon Coolpix 5700 on a tripod. The 10-second delay comes in handy for hunting alone.

AdvantageTimberLou
Re: My 2006 Bow with my Switchback Congratulations, getting one with a bird is the ultimate accomplishment few hunters get a chance to do! Someday I will join that elect club of hunters who took a turkey with a bow!
Guest Jeremiah_Johnson
Re: My 2006 Bow with my Switchback AdvantageTimberLou - I will tell you this. I hunted hard for 4 seasons to take my first one with the bow. I suffered through misses, lost birds and the trials of learning the hard way. Since the 2003 season I dedicated myself to bow only for birds and didn't even take the shotgun out - no patterning, no practicing, nothing. I gave myself fully to bow hunting, bow target practice, and bow tactics. In the 2004 and 2005 seasons I ate tag sandwich for the first time since I began turkey hunting in 1993. A two year skunking makes you appreciate your bird and taking it with the bow all that much sweeter! My advice - commit to it and resolve to eat tag sandwich until you do. It will happen.
