The feature wasn't added to the forums as a toy to get your kicks. crazy.gif

Taken from the first post in this thread [ QUOTE ]

Enjoy it, it's yours to use

I didn't see any LOI for this new feature, only the guidelines set forth in the initial post.

Just because I said I am rating people one star doesn't mean I am grin.gif But nonetheless, it's still making me kick pretty good grin.gif See you don't even have to do it to get people all spun up. I'm not breaking any rules am I? If I am, please let me know and I will adjust wink.gif

Re: ***NEW FORUM FEATURE***

Like I said at the beginning of this thread, It's called “rating” versus “reputation” . It's not exactly what swampy or I had in mind, but since we already had the feature in or forums program, it just needed to be turned on and tried out. I figured most in here were mature enough to use it wisely, but I could have been wrong. Maybe once all the jokers have used up their voting options, we'll see a little more realistic end result..I don't know.

Like I said, it wasn't exactly what we had in mind. This is more like what swampy and I were looking at.

It is a way to recognize the good deeds of others and kinda give them an attaboy....just a nice thing. This idea comes from the bodybuilding.com website forums faq's page

The reputation system can be seen on other popular websites and forums (Slashdot.org, for example). Its purpose is to hopefully give users an idea of how respected, knowledgeable, helpful, gracious, trustworthy, etc., a person is. It is a system in which you rate your peers. It is a system that, hopefully, will make you think twice about your posts. Try to help others by giving reputation to the people you believe know what they are talking about and are the most helpful! Try to earn more reputation by helping others and giving the most detailed answers, while avoiding being disrespectful to others.

I think it would be nice. Some members here really go above and beyond. Why not recognize their good deeds. It is all done on the opinion of them from other forum members and members are only allowed to give a certain amount of rep power at any one time, so it stays equal and fair. Just a nice gesture....

The one in bodybuilding.com when you give someone a positive...it only raises them 1 point. as you get more and more positives the numbers then escalate. Also a member can only receive positive from time to time, not a 5 all at once.

It would be a bit harder to abuse this system ...OH well. I still think it's a great idea.

It was very nice of you and swampy and i say"Thank you both"

I was on Grab.com for a long time and they came out(and still have it) with this same type of idea. I think it was called Karma rating.

It was abused, misused, and mutilated. They were giving their friends good ratings and if they did not know you, look out. It seemed that the karma ratings became more important than the posts. They were and still are actually begging for good Karma.

I hope it never comes to that on here!!! frown.gif

Re: ***NEW FORUM FEATURE***

im a two also, Im hurt!!!! Just kidding....this feature is good for those who wish to use it. Some people will give low ratings just because, but what does a star really mean? It will reason itself out in the end...I say let it stay!
