McAfee ????????

My Norton ran out the other week and I was advised to install McAfee this time.( computer guy said it was cheaper and better than Norton).

Sometimes when I turn on the computer, McAfee doesn't enable its virus protection, ( sometimes it does, sometimes it don't ). When I go to help or support and hit enable, the computer freezes up confused.gif

Anyone know of this problem or is McAfee just plain junk confused.gif

I Absolutely concur with the representative from Vermont!!!

Had Nortons...it ran out...tried PC Tools...it slowed down the system too much...tried the AVG free version...couldnt be happier wink.gif

(I bought mcafee's anti-virus..it's sitting in a drawer in a box...bought it tried it out for one day...it's back in the box) smirk.gif

Re: McAfee ????????

I use PC Cillin

Go to the link & you can do a free scan of your computer online without downloading.

http://www.trendmicro.com/en/home/us/home.htm

KRAFT Corp. dumped Norton virus Corp. wide

& went to PC Cillin.

You can Purchase right online too if you like it.

They used to have a 30 day Free Trial???

Don't know if they still do.

Good Luck

Re: McAfee ????????

AVG is awsome and a great scanner for your computer is Bit defender. Go to google and type in "online virus scanner." Bit defender is like the third one down and works great. It detects and removes any viruses. It takes a while to do but just let it run. It doesn't block viruses, it eliminates them along with spyware. Another freebie is Ad Aware personal. It's a spyware blocker that is always running and you can use it to scan for tracking software. AVG, Bit Defender and AdAware are the best and are all free. Also, Windows firewall is all you need to keep on your computer. Just enable automatic updates so you don't have that annoying popup saying updates are ready to be installed and let it do it's job. Just some advice I use for my personal computer and my buddy who works as a computer engineer.

Re: McAfee ????????

Norton and Trend micro are great anti virus programs. Mcafee on the other hand isn't quite as good in my opinion. My aunt had it on her laptop and it caused tons of problems. Uninstalled it and put Norton on and everything is good to go now. The computer moves faster and there are no more viruses on the system.

Re: McAfee ????????

If you didn't completely unistall norton before you installed McAffee that can cause major problems.

Anti-virus softwares don't work and play well with each other. Never ever have more than one installed a computer at the same time.

Also your firewall settings can seriously cause headaches with AV programs.

Norton and McAfee are both good programs.
