VTbowman
Well I went out to check on my soon to be food plot. I am wanting to get this thing rolling but my 1st step is to spray but I aint gotz nuttin to spray yet! Well its all matted down golden rod and who knows what else. Dry and the wind is right. Flick FLICK! WhooMM! I set it a blaze and realized it aint no easy thing keeping it contained to just that field. It boarded by 3 green fields with a lot of over growth in the ditches. But the 4th side is woods. Yep winds blowing towards the woods line after its burning. Good thing I had a rake to beat down the flames. All in all it took about 2 hours of burning and about 1 million smacks with the rake to keep it under control. LOL Now I have a bit of fertilizer and can see the new growth better. Gonna spray Round-Up on my next day off..

VTbowman
Re: Burned it down.....!!!! By the time the 2+ hours were up and the flame gone I was spent. I mean literally spent. I have a new respect for those firefighters who battle forest fires. No joke. It was tough work containing the 1/2 acre by myself. Dumb really since I ended up with near 1st degree burns on my forearms. I could barely walkafterwards being sore and all.. Cold shower and 2 advil had me back outside doing yard work. LOL Again, no joke... I do plan to take some pics of the burn and progress of the plot.
wtnhunt
Re: Burned it down.....!!!! Glad I have the tractor to use when I am burning. I usually push up what I wasnt to burn or cut a big enough area around the area tobe burned so the fire will be contained.
