archerjg
I have a question about gluing on the vanes. Dol you guys use a special applicator or do you just squeeze it out of the tube or bottle. The reason I ask is I fletched my first dozen arrows a few months ago and some of the vanes I just did not get enough glue on. When the vane hits the target it peels off a little. I just glue it back on, but I want to stop it from happening when I fletch my next dozen. Thanks for any help. Archerjg
VTbowman
Re: For those that make there own arrows. I just apply straight out of the tube and I am a bit liberal.
VermontHunter
Re: For those that make there own arrows. Right from the tube itself (AAE Gel) I apply a thin line the full length of the vane. Once I have all of my shafts fletched I go back and apply a small bead to the leading front of each vane..This will help in preventing those vanes from peeling off.. Guest PAT_PATTERSON
Re: For those that make there own arrows. Always make sure your shafts are clean, I clean ,mine with Acetone and then wash with comet or Ajax and a scotch brite pad and rinse with hot water.I always do this because some things we use to remove the glue with has oils in it. When you rinse you will probably notice black in the sink. Carbon dust (if you are shooting carbon arrow) if it's not cleaned off you vanes will not stick. Let them dry or use a clean paper towel and don't touch the shaft where you plan to fletch (oil from your skin). Follow the directions from the manufacture on how to apply the vanes (cleaning the base). Last make sure you get good base contact with the shaft, a thin bead of glue, don't over do the glue or you will also have problems there also. Then add the drop of glue on the front and back of the vane as suggested before when they are dry.
Guest RisingSunOutdoors
Re: For those that make there own arrows. Liberal, right out of the tube. I like NPV glue for fletching. Clean the shafts well with denatured alcohol if your using glue. If your using "super glue" type adhesive just clean with water and let the sahft dry. Always add a drop of glue to the tip of the vane. This will help prevent them from coming off if they go into a target.

Straight Shooter
Re: For those that make there own arrows. I'm with Tom on this one. I use the fletch-tite in the red and white tube for carbon and aluminum. I've tried the platinum, it's rather runny and hard to fool with.I also don't like the way it adhere's to the vanes and shafts. I've tried several other brands as well with not much satisfaction either. Bottom line though, if you prepare your arrow shafts in the right manner most glues will suffice just fine. This entails using emory clothe, acetone or alcohol to prep your arrows, graphite or aluminum. This little bead on the end is called dabbing the vane ends. It prevents the fletching from curling when going into a target.
BowJoe
Re: For those that make there own arrows. I tried the paint method and glued the vanes directly to the paint coating. Same method of glueing but I make sure to clean my excess glue with a alcohol wipe. And I use Goat Tuff!!! Strongest stuff they make! archerjg
Re: For those that make there own arrows. Thanks guys. I use the fletch-tite as well, but I just did not get enough on the vanes before I put them on. When the few have come off it was at the leading edge. I'll try the tips that I got here when I make another batch. Again thank you for the help. Archerjg

Guest hookedonhunting
Re: For those that make there own arrows. I use Fletch-tite also. and apply it straight from the tube. Once you have the feather or vane bonded put a small drop at both ends of the feather to keep the most vulnerable areas from peeling. Good luck! Guest UltraTec360
Re: For those that make there own arrows. I've always had problems w/ Fletch Tite. It just doesn't seem to stick to carbons that well. I switched to Pine Ridge and have had no problems at all. I just squeeze it out of the tube, a small bead, and apply. Dry in a couple of minutes.
