Re: summer deer feed

They like mineral in the spring and summer months while the fawns are nursing and the bucks are in velvet.

I reccomend going to your local farm supply co-op and getting some heifer mineral. Look for something high in salt and high in calcium. Make sure it doesn't have any drugs(rumensin) in it.

Or there is a homebrew recipe that a lot of people use. Do a search and you'll find it. I think it's a mix of salt and calcium.

Re: summer deer feed

Any of the specialized pellet feeds work well in the summer. Wildgame Innovation's Deer-Vour has a spring/summer and a fall/winter formula that offer differing protein levels for the time of year. However, their products are hard to find. I like the Purina Antler-Max. Great protein and nutrient levels and it is easy to get from most Purina dealers.

Re: summer deer feed

I use protein pellets with about 16% protein. A deer's digestive system can not effectively yeild more than that from a protein feed. Don't waste money on any protein with higher percentages, a deer simply can not gain from it. Corn has no nutritional value to speak of and is a waste of money . However, deer do crave it. In my area the deer start eating less protein in the fall so I switch to a soybean corn mix. Peanuts are also a good feed.
