IllinoisArcher
Who is the best third basemen of all time and still playing? Mine for still playing is definatly JOE Crede
Tominator
Re: 3rd Basemen Brooks Robinson all time, maybe Mike Schmidt. Present day, all around player, give him a couple more years, A-Rod.
tedicast
Re: 3rd Basemen All time...I think I'm gonna vote for Craig Nettles. I can still picture some of his diving snatches of line drives down the 3rd base line.
MCH
Re: 3rd Basemen Mike Schmidt all the way. Scott Rolen is by far the best playing today in my book. A-rod is still a shortstop to me.
jdickey
Re: 3rd Basemen When you've followed baseball as long as I have, you've seen a lot of great ones! Ken Boyer would be one to consider as best all-around, but based upon his longevity, consistency, and performance... I would definitely have to go with BROOKS ROBINSON. Present day is really tuff... Eric Chavez, Scott Rolen.... but my pick would be A-ROD! I've seen him there for a couple of years... and he is really smooth.... plus has the stick and the MVP to go with it! slugshooter
Re: 3rd Basemen Here's one for ya, not the best overall, but definitely worth noting. Terry Pendleton, not a star with the bat but definitely worth his weight on the hot corner.
okbowman
Re: 3rd Basemen Schmidt or Robinson all time Today Rolen or A Rod
Mountaineer
Re: 3rd Basemen Schmidt all- time. Present day is tough tho, I love my Yankees, but ARod dissapoints me too much at 3rd to get my vote. So i'm going out on a limb and saying Wright for the Mets. He has some fielding skills! brownie65
Re: 3rd Basemen All time have to go with George Brett. Best playing today is Scott Rolen. He is the best defensively ever. The future is David Wright. He is good on defense but lapses & boots some easy ones but he will get better. When he retires Rolen will be the best 3B of All Time. No 3B ever holds a candle to his defense. Guy is just awesome at the hot corner & has a cannon for a arm.

buckbuster11
Re: 3rd Basemen Mike Schmidt all time probably. Presently, A-Rod is the best all around but I'd put Chipper Jones and Scott Rolen right up there as well.

Texan_Til_I_Die
Re: 3rd Basemen George Brett - one of my all time favorites. For hitting, I'd have to go with Wade Boggs. Hard to beat a .328 lifetime BA.

DSGB
Re: 3rd Basemen Chipper Jones. The numbers don't lie. Injuries and a few years in left field hurt him, though.
ruttinbuc
Re: 3rd Basemen Mike Schmidt all time. No one comes close. His bat and his defense make it no question. Brooks Robinson played on grass and dirt and was one of the best ever with a glove. Scott Rolen and A-Rod are the best in today's game. George Brett? Nah, not even close! texastrophies
Re: 3rd Basemen Unless he has been banned by this forum also, there was a guy that played a few years at third that goes by the name Pete Rose. Granted he's not in the Hall, but he was pretty good.
