Jeramie Posted May 15, 2006 Report Share Posted May 15, 2006 Question gang. One of great Grand Dads had a Belgium Browning (12ga, auto) that my dad use to hunt with. Dad had wanted to find one for years for nostalgic reasons. Recently he was at a local pawn shop. There hung dad's dream gun. He payed $400 for the 12ga. This thing is in pristine condition and even the barrel is almost flawless (inside). I reguraly see autos for $200 around here in pawn shops. Dad kept bragging up the Belgium make of the shotgun so I checked it out and sure enough, on the vent side I saw "Made In Belgium." He also found on a Gun-site were this particular gun was a "Light something or another." It has "Browning" printed on the backside of the receiver with scrolling and such. The only shotgun he could find to compare had a gold trigger, this has a silver but that doesnt mean it hasnt been changed. The gun alone is very, very clean. My only concern is, did he pay to much for the shotgun? Again, he has always wanted one but I wasnt sure if the gun itself was worth the $400 he payed for it. anyway... WABS Posted May 15, 2006 Report Share Posted May 15, 2006 Re: Belgium Browing? Jeramie - what your Dad probably purchased is a A-5 Light (FN), should say 2 3/4 shells only on the barrel. My Gun Book says that one in Excellent condition without a raised rib is $550 and with a raised rib is $795. Many of the older A-5s have had their stocks replaced because of problems with cracking, especially in the forearm stock. Does it have a rounded knob on the butt stock or flat? I've found a couple of decent ones out on AuctionArms.com -- have to kind of pick your fights out there. Some are obviously very much in demand and go higher than they should. But if you pick wisely and set your own limit as to what you're willing to pay you'll eventually get your A5. Definitely my favorite shotgun(s) bar none.
