PA_Spike_King
Ok my Dad and I shoot 2 custom made 7mm mags that we have to fire form Rem 7mm cases to work in our guns. We have to set the shoulder back to make them work for us. Now my question is how many times can we shoot these cases before we need to buy more shells. We are getting some splits in the necks and they are not new cases. THANKS.

AJ
Re: I got a case question Anytime I need to fireform cases for a custom chamber, I only use new virgin brass. Not once fired, brand new. It will give the most reloads before having problems like splits. What is the gun chambered for? How far back are you moving the shoulder? You should only have to move the shoulder back once initially to fit the chamber, then neck size or partial full length resize until the blt will not close, then bump the shoulder back a thou or so. If you are bumping the shoulder back every time, you are work hardening the brass and that can cause premature neck splits. You can anneal the brass to soften the neck/shoulder area and it will last a very long time if its being sized properly.
PA_Spike_King
Re: I got a case question AJ the rifle is chambered for 7mm Mag. The shoulder is only moved back slightly from the Rem 7mm Mag. This gun is a Saco and it started life as a 375H&H Mag and was built into a 7mm Mag in 1958. AJ from your responce I think my Dad and I need to start with new brass because the splits we are getting are in brass that we don't have a clue how many times they were shot before we got them. We neck size everything we reload center fire wise. Huntinguide thanks for your responce too.
AJ
Re: I got a case question The best brass is from Lapua, but they don't offer 7mm Rem Mag if I remember correctly. Norma is second best and they do offer 7mm Rem Mag. It's great stuff compared to the Rem, Win, Fed offerings.

Is it made of different type brass, or just tighter tolerences ? too_
AJ
Re: I got a case question The flash hole is drilled vs punched. The tolerance is much tighter. I can get standard brass to match the tolerance, but it takes a lot of work. The weight is much closer with the Lapua or Norma compared to Remchester. The wall thickness is also more uniform on the Euro brass.
