Bushman
The Conservatives are changing the registry...deregistering all long guns. Only handguns and semi autos will need to be registered. From my little knowledge I don't think this is too bad a start.

buckee
Re: Gun Registration Now all they need to do is come up with a Grandfather clause so I don't have to take the safety course over or write the stupid exam, in-order to get my FAC permit or PAL. I took a hunter's safety course when I was 15 years old in-order to get my hunting licence, and I have a clean criminal record. I don't see why I need to do that again. I have a Possession Only permit and my guns are registered. The government trusts me to own and use the guns I have, but doesn't trust me to go buy a new one, without the safety course, test and FAC permit. What is wrong with this picture. I had a FAC for almost 12 years and a clean criminal record same as you. I just really didn't want to take another course and fork out money and spend a weekend for a Pal. It would be a dream come true if they grandfather us but I wouldn't hold my breathe on it.

Canadian_Goose
Re: Gun Registration What course are you referring to buckee because it is my understanding that you need the Canadian Firearms Safety Course , or something along the lines of that. Yep I had been hunting safely since I was 8 (dont tell the legal age was 12) with my father, who up to about the age 14 had taught me everything I know about hunting, and I had never once had any safety concerns about guns. At that age I knew how to handle them and knew what they were capable of and I was confident in my skills and knew what to do and not to do. (unlike so people who sit around and play Duke Nukem all day). But years later they tell me that I have to take another course (which cost me $60) and buy a PAL (another $60) which has to be renewed every x amount of years. Not right if you ask me. Thats what happens when you have a bunch of big wig liberals who have absolutely no exposure to guns calling the shots. Sorry for the rant guys. buckee
Re: Gun Registration [ QUOTE ] What course are you referring to buckee because it is my understanding that you need the Canadian Firearms Safety Course , or something along the lines of that. [/ QUOTE ] I don't know what exactly the course was called back then, in Ontario when I was around 15, but it was a compulsory Hunter's Safety Course that every new young hunter had to take to get your hunting licence. It was a week long course, both written and practical. I passed it with flying colours and have been hunting ever since. Now, why didn't the Government take that into consideration, when they came up with this "NEW" compulsory "Canadian Firearms Safety Course ". As far as I'm concerned, I've been there, done that, and have proved over the years that I am a responsible, safe hunter and gun owner. This whole gun law thing is ridiculous from the get go, but if they are going to implement something like this, and get me to co-operate, they'd better come up with a Grandfather clause, so I can just go in with my old hunter-number and get issued what-ever permits I need, without paying to take a test or without paying to challenge the test. The Government is treating us guys who have already jumped these loops years ago, like we are stupid, and need to be re-educated. I'm a stubborn ol' cuss, and I am not..I repeat not going to take the test or challenge the test, because the whole issue is redundant. That right there is the biggest reason I am not going to be Elk hunting in Colorado this Fall. Colorado, also requires a Hunter's Safety Certificate before they will issue you a non-resident licence, and I refuse to take the test over. It's my only way of holding on to my sanity in this whole gun control issue. I was proud to take the course at 15 years old and pass, inorder to earn the privilege of hunting with a fire-arm. I was proud to be a Canadian back then too ....Not these days I'm not.
Canadian_Goose
Re: Gun Registration Wow your course was a week long, both my hunter safety and firearms training were one-dayers. It's all a big money grab anyways, Harpers cutting it down but he can only clean up soo much of the liberals crappile if you as me. pardon my language.
