Pay a visit to the teacher in your uniform and see what he/she has to say!

That is the perfect idea right there. Honestly kids need to know about the war, blocking them isnt healthy in my opinion. Educated them without leaning to one side and let them form their own opinion...

Honestly, its kind of like hunting and fishing. Having any teacher push them in one direction or the other goes over like a turd in the punchbowl.

Re: I am about to snap

I think you should ask him why he thinks we are at war and go with is answer and let him write it down ... if its not what the teacher wants then he can explain why it is what he believes ... I mean if hes old enough to write a letter he must be old enough to have an opinion ... I think any persons opinion is valuable at any age I just take it into consideration the age and what not... just outa curiosity what is his opinion on the war over there? ...

How old is your child? Is that really an appropriate topic for a child to write? I totally disagree with the war but support the troops.

Re: I am about to snap

I'm about to make some jaws drop open here. Most everyone that frequents the politics room knows I am not a fan of George Bush and not a fan of the reasons given to invade. I am however completely against a teacher or school system forcing children to write a letter to the president based solely on the teachers/school systems political views.

If I were you Mike, definitely bring it up to the principal/school board and I would also say that unless your son is allowed to write a letter to the president expressing his own personal views on the war/Bush then he won't be turning in the assignment at all.

Re: I am about to snap

GSGT,

What a load of Horse****! This liberal, tree hugging, free peace for all stuff has really got me steamed.

It's bad enough that the only thing that makes CNN are photos and videos of our soldiers being killed by IED, VBIED, or vest bombs. Nothing about all the good that happens here ever makes the tube. Now teachers are trying to push some "liberal agenda" on impressionable young minds. It just sickens me.

What, pray tell, is the good teacher going to do with all of these letters? Post them on the board, box them all up and send them to 1600 Pennsylvania Ave., or give them to some media outlet as anit-war propaganda?

I would show up in uniform (deserts if you have them already) and voice my concern about this anti american behavior (restriction of free speech) to not only the teacher, but the principal, and if necessary the school board.

I would also throw in that actions like this are extremely offensive to those of us who wear the uniform, and whether we agree or not, or job is to carry out the lawful orders of the Commander in Chief and the officers appointed over us.

For sure, junior would have to take a 0 on particular project.

Thanks for letting me vent.

Re: I am about to snap

When you go into the conference on Thursday, go in uniform, and since you aren't a "people" person, just sit there, and let the wife talk. Your presence alone will HOPEFULLY shed some light on that teachers opinion, BUT you will also be there if she starts going off the deep end!!

Re: I am about to snap

This sort of liberal mind control is scary huh? Young, impressionalble minds are often the target, but it will get even worse once they go to college.

Do what you need to do with the teacher Mike, the letter and meeting face-to-face with her while wearing your uniform is a great way to handle this. I would suggest writing the letter, and then hand delivering it to her in uniform.

Don't say anything, just look her in the eye and hand it to her...that should make a positive impression.

I'd also sit down with your boy and make sure he understands what is going on here.

Re: I am about to snap

Totally right Mike.

I'd make a call to the principal ASAP.

We have one history teacher that is a known liberal, and he sometimes steps over the line.

Good thing there's a redneck conservative in the room right next to him--so I balance it out. grin.gif

Call the teacher and the principal, and if you don't get any satisfaction there, call a board member and the superintendent. That kind of biased crap should not be in the schools IMHO. mad.gif

Re: I am about to snap

Sorry to hear that Mike. My honest thoughts are that in Massachusettes or anywhere in this country, no school or teacher has the right to tell a kid what they have to think by telling them they have to right something like this.

I would have to go in and talk to someone and let them know my thoughts and to get some answers.

The only reason jaws would drop is because so many on the political left, unlike you, are devoid of principles and would readily use school aged children to advance whatever cause they saw fit, regardless of the feelings and beliefs of those children.

Re: I am about to snap

The letter must of worked, we have a conference with the teacher and a somebody from the school board next week. I am sure my letter got posted in the faculity(sp) room and the school is aware. My son said that after he gave her the letter, she told the class she would be right back. Must of been important wink.gifgrin.gif
