preacherman
Re: Do you tythe? yes I tithe........usually over the 10% that God says we should. The way me and the wife look at it is that it is all God's anyway and without His blessings we wouldn't have any of it.........so why not give a portion back to Him. BowJoe
Re: Do you tythe? I don't tithe. I feel that most of the churches use the money for their own needs and not God's. Why should you pay for a building that is only used 1 1/2 days out of the week unless theirs a wedding or a funeral? I may make a few people mad but hear me out. Did Jesus ask for money? No. In the Book of Luke 20 Verse 21-26 21And they asked him, saying, Master, we know that thou sayest and teachest rightly, neither acceptest thou the person of any, but teachest the way of God truly: 22Is it lawful for us to give tribute unto Caesar, or no? 23But he perceived their craftiness, and said unto them, Why tempt ye me? 24Shew me a penny. Whose image and superscription hath it? They answered and said, Caesar's. 25And he said unto them, Render therefore unto Caesar the things which be Caesar's, and unto God the things which be God's. 26And they could not take hold of his words before the people: and they marvelled at his answer, and held their peace. No where did it say give 10% of your money. Deuteronomy 12 verse 17 17Thou mayest not eat within thy gates the tithe of thy corn, or of thy wine, or of thy oil, or the firstlings of thy herds or of thy flock, nor any of thy vows which thou vowest, nor thy freewill offerings, or heave offering of thine hand: Give 10% of what you have. To me, that means your effort, time, works, harvest and everything you can thank God for blessing you with except the first born of your herd since that is the Lord's already and your children. In other words, 10% of everything you have except money. God doesn't want your money. I also think it's a farse to pay people in your church to "do God's will." Jesus and his disciples didn't take money for it and neither should anyone else. I can see providing for his workers of the truth but not just giving them money to buy a nice fancy house, a big fancy car and tailored suits. In my religion, worker have nothing that belongs to them. Not even the clothes on their backs. They are provided a car that they don't own as well as a bank account from which they pay for their meals, gas and necessities. They are invited to stay at our homes and to eat with us and are provided whatever we can muster for their needs. Yet these people are some of the most dedicated and yet open minded workers of God you have ever seen. They have a way of getting the point across without fire and brimstone. They give of themselves totally and without exception. ANd they never ask for a dime in return. How many preachers do you know that if you offered them a job making $100,000 a year if they up and leave their current church wouldn't do it in a heartbeat. That's not following God, that's following Money.

Newarcher
Re: Do you tythe? I do but recently I had to cut it down because of finances from 10+ percent to what I can afford. I have been doing a lot of reading on the topic and I don't know for sure that in new testament scripture the 10% rule still applies. It says to give cheerfully and when I was trying to still give more than 10%, it was hurting a lot and I was resenting it....just to be honest. I now give what I can cheerfully and ask God to look over me if I am doing wrong by not giving 10%. New
bozz
Re: Do you tythe? Yes I do......Malachi 3:10,11...talk about Gods protection and abundance and giving to prove him.....I need that in my life......yeah God does not need money but his church does to move the word and keep the lights on....I give to recieve God's blessings and could care less where the $$$ goes. Jeramie
Re: Do you tythe? By definition, no. I should but that would be a chunk of our monthly income. We were for a while but things got tight after our daughter. We are working on getting back to that point. I still give to the Church and God. Regardless of whether Christ actually asked for 10% or not, I owe it to him imho. I give what I can right now. Occasionally I feel motivated to help in other ways and im more then glad to. Plus, the church offers us so much support, friendship, and love. I have no problems supporting any foundation like that.
jbeck
Re: Do you tythe? Yes, God gives me the ability to do this job. I feel 10% is a small price for the blessing I recieve. I also work with the youth and donate quite a bit with that. I am fortunate to be comfertable and look forward to doing my part. Please remember that the church has to answer for how the money is placed, we have to answer for not sending it.
M00N
Re: Do you tythe? Nope I don't and never will. I don't practice religion. I use my extra money to help others around me instead on my own. That way I know my money is being used how I want it, not how someone else feels it should be used.
wtnhunt
Re: Do you tythe? Used to tithe around 10 percent, probably a little more, but due to happenings at the church quit going to church and quit tithing all together. Would much rather give to causes I see fit where I better believe the money is doing some good.
