last night my boss called me said he ran into a problem, well we got done working yesterday and after work he took off strait to the airport had to take his daughter back to florida for graduation, well leaving right from work he hadnt changed, well he passed through the medal detector and forgot he had his gerber on his side, so they detained him, called me back a little later and said they talked to him and told him he was gonna get a warning or a 1000 dollar fine, so then 4 hours later from this incident, he called and said he was boarding and he just got the warning, i thought it was pretty funny, i joked about him prolly getting a cavity search but he said no, but i dont know bout that lol

Re: my boss got detained at ohare airport

We had one of our Marines who went on leave the other month. He flew out of Boston. He used his Military issued day pack as his carry on as alot of Marines do. I use mine back and forth to work. But anyway, we had just did the rifle and pistol range the week before. Well he left his 9mm pistol magazine in his pack and didn't realize it until they knabbed him at the security check point grin.gif Needless to say, he flew but not on his scheduled flight. He ended up being delayed for a few hours. They called our duty phone and everything to verify who he was grin.gif

It's not too hard to forget things like that. It never occured to him that he still had that in there. That's probably the same situation here. At least they are catching that stuff.

Not trying to Hijack the thread, glad to hear your boss made it ok, but I gotta put this out for public consumption.

TSA policy is screwed up and here's why.

We were leaving from a major East Coast Airport on a military contracted flight for Europe with follow on travel to our current destination, several of my buddies had their UNLOADED (EMPTY, ONLY THE SPRING AND BULLET REST INSIDE, NO BULLETS AT ALL) M-9 and M-4 mags in their carry on bags. Not all of their issue, thankfully, but the one per that is normally carried in the weapon.

We all followed the standard proceedure of placing our carry-on bags on the conveyors to be scanned. TSA pulled every one of those guys out, searched their bags, and confiscated the mags. Now mind you, all of us are in uniform and those mags are kinda importaint where we were headed.

We argued with the Screeners, the area supervisor, and the Manager about the necessity of those magazines to no avail. TSA kept the mags and my buddies were left to try and scrounge up some once we hit country. Luckily, we were able to do this.

TSAs reasoning, magazines, even unloaded ones, are contraband and are not allowed in the cabin of airplanes, even ones contracted by the military.

Go Figure... confused.gif

Re: my boss got detained at ohare airport

Sept 23rd 2001, the trade towers had just fallen and the world was in a frenzy, my 13 man team that I was assigned to had just been called up and we were heading to a "undisclosed" location. We were to take commerical flights from the states to Germany where we would connect with a military C-17 and then a flight to Saudi then from there was a chopper ride to our location. We were all told that we were to hand a copy of our orders to the scanners at the airport and then we would be routed around the lines so we could connect with our flights. We had all gone through but 1 guy and he was walking through the by-pass section when a national guard member told him to halt which he did, then he was detained and held AT GUNPOINT for trying to sneek past the metal detector. He tried to explain the situation and even had our Team leader who was an E-8 try to get things straight. The guard member (in exact words) Get your F'ing beep back or I will be forced to used deadly force. After an hour of trying to get his supervisor and get going we ended up missing 3 other flights through out the day. Sometimes the airport security is the craziest thing that has happened to airline companies. frown.gif
