Re: Got tazed!

Tasers are billed as the nonlethal alternative to bullets, but that may not always be the case. Since 2001, fifty people have died after being shocked with Tasers. In training, volunteers usually receive a single shock of a half-second or less. In the field, Tasers automatically fire for five seconds. If an officer holds down the trigger, a Taser will discharge longer. And suspects are often hit repeatedly. Just wondering here Ken. Is this true? confused.gif

We received a course by a certified instructor (doesn't work for tazer), and the studies are showing that people who died because after being tazed, the actual cause of death was determined to be caused from being on a drug or something other than the electric shock. The tazer delievers less than a fraction of a joule and does not even effect pacemakers! These are new generation tazers. Even the spray we carry was linked (by lawyers of course) to deaths because they claim it caused heart attacks. Any less than lethal alternative should be welcomed by the public, and for law enforcement it is a big step for LEO's to use tools that are less than lethal in lethal situations. The presentation was really in depth and explained exactly how any why they were determined to be not the cause of death of any individuals. Remember, even when we wrestle with someone, people can get hurt or die including officers, either from injuries or heart attacks. There are always some risk in this line of work and we do our best to minimize it. laugh.gif

If they don't stop when the police tell them too, zap them! grin.gif If they croak, they croak. They should have listened. It's quite simple. Thanks swamp and to all the other officers out there for what you do.............. wink.gif

Re: Got tazed!

Wow,lol! I think I know how you felt thought! We bought a new fencer for our horse pasturejust this past fall. It was for like a 5-10 mile fence and ours is only likemaybe a mile or 2 at the most. Well one day, coming up with a box of pumpkins from the patch, I bent over to go under the fench, mind you this was near the end of the fence. Well next thing I know, I feel everything in my chest stop, it wasl ike I was frozen in time for a split second, then I heard zzzzzppppp and I go "ooooommpphhh" and fall right on my face. Let me tell you that hurt on my backside!!! Later on in the evening, I wondering why my very lower back was sore, I went in the bathroom, pulled down the waste on my pants and had red burn lines across!!! Yeah, that fencer works, lol.

Re: Got tazed!

It hurt for sure..it more incapacitates you than anything though. It makes all your muscles contract so you can't fight or try to get away. I was surprised though that as soon as it was shut off the pain and sensation was gone immediately. We actual had fun watching each other get tazed. They are very high voltage, but very very low joules and amperage. It did not feel like there was any negative feelings, other than the muscles contracting and pain right at the impact site.

Re: Got tazed!

Better you than me!!

There was a guy last year here in Cumberland County that got tazed by a Deputy Sheriff and died afterwards. People tried to bring the race factor in, white officer/ black victim. The problem was there was a high speed pursuit, suspect bailed and ran, officer chased him down, ordered him to stop, suspect didn't stop, suspect got tazed and burst into flames because unbeknownest to the officer, during the chase the suspect had a gas can in the vehicle that spilled over and doused him with gasoline thus causing the spontaneous combustion. I figure hey, the officer was doing him a favor by tazering him rather than shooting him dead, it's just too bad the guy dumped gasoline on himself before getting zapped.

Chances are, if someone is being tazed - they are not behaving... meaning total uncooperation and zero compliance.

We have had tasers for a little over a year now and see a pretty good rise in compliance... grin.gif

Re: Got tazed!

I had a run-in with an electric fence one time, when My Binos fell out of my coller and made a wrap around the wire. I got about 6 good zaps before finally getting out ...LOL. My heart was still racing pretty good by the time I got to the other end of the field.

I think that's the closest I want to come to getting Tazed grin.gif
