I haven't been out in a week because of this miserable weather w've been having, but i'm planning to go out this week. does any one know how the turkeys are behaving? i'm assuming they are probably quieting down (not that I've heard much anyway, lol). How I should I be hunting the turkeys this late in the season?

Re: NY-what\'s going on?

well, in my area it has changed quite a bit since the opener. Coming down late off of the roost (high winds). little gobbling, but if you get one fired up on the ground, your chances are probably good.. we got some success this weekend with a longbeard, i had to back off 40 yards and call him out of a hang-up so my father could get him

Re: NY-what\'s going on?

From what I have been seeing, the hens are sitting the nests right now, so that only spells one thing. The gobblers should be getting lonely!!! I personally feel that from now until the end of the month, things should start picking up in the turkey woods!! wink.gif

Re: NY-what\'s going on?

Here in Allegany county thing have been mostly quiet. Like turkeygirl, it's been really crappy weather so I haven't been out. Last time I was out I seen some hens in a field and had a gobbler bout 80 yrds out but still had hens. 3 jakes came in but ended up joining the tom and his ladies. so I'm hoping the long weekend will be a good one. Good luck everyone!!

Re: NY-what\'s going on?

I'm tagged out but I tried to call in some birds for my dad and my bro this past sunday. At about 5AM an owl was setting a tom off on the roost close to our cabin. Then around 6AM we worked a bunch of jakes, but they just didn't want to commit.

Like Paul said, things should be picking up big time soon. Hens will be on the nests full time and the gobblers will be danged lonely.

Re: NY-what\'s going on?

was up at my NY lodge and hunting property near Cobleskill NY last weekend and had a bird gobbling hard after fly down but not much off the roost, ended up getting him. the next morning had a few birds gobbling pretty good on the roost but never connected with them. they are still active. I got a nice gobbler yesterday in CT that came in gobbling hard and strutting the whole way. they are getting LONELY!!!!!!!
