Nada. frown.gif

I ended up with a ruptured disc flaring up just before our season came in. I was scheduled to hunt PA, Ohio and Mexico this spring. Ended up laying in bed for a month and having back surgery this past Friday. This is the first year in 26 years I have not hunted turkeys in the spring. My father-in-law has been going rounds with a gobbler back of my house, here. He gives me a report every morning. If I could just hobble out one morning and call for him................. But our season goes out Saturday. I don't know how much hobbling I'm gonna be doing by then. I guess it'll be spring, again, in about 11 months. smirk.gif

Well, I tagged one so far. He was 21 3/4# with 2 beards, one was 7 7/8" and the other was 10 3/8" with a pair of 13/16" spurs. I'll get the pics on here eventually. Still workin on that second tag, it's been real hot here, and the underbrush has really grown in the last few weeks. That's alright, I'll Get'r Done though.

Good season!!!!!!! My boy and I killed 3 apiece. We both got 2 in WVa and 1 in Ohio. Killed my longest set of spurs yet---1 9/16. We called in 17 gobblers and I tried to get my last one in ohio with my TRYKON but it didn't happen. Lots of mushrooms, ramps and gobblers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: How much beak meat in 06?

Glad you asked Michael. To say the least, it was a GREAT season.

I took my son on opening day in Mississippi and called in this nice bird using one of redbeard's slate calls that my son shot inside the 20 yard line. 9 3/4" beard and 1 1/16" spurs

Next time out in the turkey woods I bagged my 1st bird of the season after 2 hours and 10 minutes of war games with the birds. My first bird had a 9 1/2" beard and 1 1/4" spurs.

Two hunts later I bagged my 2nd gobbler that followed 2 hens that I called in. I showed him how to back flip into a creek so picture choices were limited. 10 1/4" beard, 1" & 1 1/16" spurs.

I took a break from carrying a weapon for a couple of weeks helping out some friends and just taking some video footage. The next hunt I made when I carried a weapon again resulted in the last of my 3 bird limit for Mississippi. Another great challenging hunt with this bird coming to the call about 3 hours into the morning. 11 1/4" paint brush beard with a 1 1/4" spur and a 3/8" deformed spur.

Now it was time to head to Texas and put the hurt on some Rios. Here's the 3 Rios I bagged in Texas. Needless to say it was an unbelievable hunt. First time I've ever turkey hunted and passed up short, thin bearded 2 year old birds. My three Texas Rios were: 10 1/8" beard & 1 5/16" spurs; 9 1/2" paint brush beard & 1 1/16" spurs; and 9 1/4" paint brush beard & 1 1/16" spurs.

BTW great 2 day hunt but a bad hair day for the pic.

Re: How much beak meat in 06?

My group took three longbeards and a jake in the first four days of the OK season, then suffered a bit of a dry spell.

We heard, saw, and even photographed and videod three cagey ole toms in the remaining weeks but never could get any of them in the right place at the right time.

Can't complain though given my "Double with Dad":

My bird where he fell:

Now we're gearing up for fall. Both my father and I plan to take a bird with our bows. October 1st can't get here soon enough! grin.gif

Why Michael, thanks for asking. Above is pics of my son Joe, AJ and I and the birds we took on opening day here in NY.

Last sunday, I took all 3 of my boys out for gobblers. My youngest boy(9) is a Michael like you, and his eyes lit up the sky when he heard that gobble break the morning silence. My oldest son Joe tagged out, so he was doing that magic turkey talk for us with his mouth call, custom box call and custom slate. My 12 year old and I were shooters and the little guy sat with the caller, behind us. Lemme tell you I can't stand them dang hens mad.gif They got inbetween us 2 times and came in very angry... putting hard, wanting to know who was trying to steal her man. These birds were hot! We went back to the same place Joe smacked down his big ole tom.

She won, no birds, but I had a wonderful morning with my 3 sons running and trying to gun. I remember each and every one of my boys faces when they heard their 1st gobble off the roost...priceless!

Michael...I just don't think it gets any better than that. wink.gif
