kidd
good morning!!! got a question for you i have a plot of clover plus that i need to fert. with some triple 12, but here is my problem!! the clover has gone to seed and needs to be mowed. wtnhunt
Re: yet another mowing question I would fertilize after mowing if it were me. Will be cutting hay off of our clover plots hopefully this weekend and then fertilizing again.

wtnhunt
Re: yet another mowing question [ QUOTE ] Is 12-12-12 recommended for Clover Plus? [/ QUOTE ] It should work fine. I liketo use a low nitrogen fertilizer for my clover plots. I usually use 6-12-12.

LETMGROW
Re: yet another mowing question I would not be concerned so much about the first number [Nitrogen] if your dealer doesn't have a wide selection of fertilizer. Although you may not need it the higher N won't really hurt you that much. I use triple 19 alot but cut it down to 100# per acre. Up here triple 10 goes for $9.50 a 50# bag. Triple 19 goes for $11 a bag. Get my drift?
kidd
Re: yet another mowing question sure this is what i will do either use 3-12 or cut back 3-19 does a nice job!!
wtnhunt
Re: yet another mowing question Only downside to using a high nitrogen fertilizer is that the nitrogen will promote faster weed growth.

[/ QUOTE ] That's what I was getting at...I didn't think the Biologic folks would recommend it for that reason. The nitrogen especially brings on grasses in the plot, which compete with the clovers. dogdoc
Re: yet another mowing question I strongly recommend using a nitrogen based fertilizer when first planting---it takes a while for the nodules on the roots of the legumes to get up and functioning--but subsequent ferlizations need to be as low nitrogen as possible---EXCEPT---2 weeks before deer season. I always will broadcast about 50# of 34-0-0 on my clover plots around 2 to 3 weeks prior to deer season. The high nitrogen gets that clover really green and tasting super delicious. I don't worry about the weeds at that time since most of your summer weeds are gone or close to dying anyway. todd

kidd
Re: yet another mowing question yeah you are right but if you get rid of the weeds early (using post or other herbisides) then the clover should be tall enough to choke out them crazy weeds good tymes you guys are awesome nate
