VTbowman
Went out ot give it another try today. Its been really dead around here for any turkey sightings or calls. Weather has been real crappy up here with all the rain (11 days straight) and now windy and even a few snow flakes... Not exactly spring turkey hunting weather ya know.. Anyways I was not super confident so I made this a dual purpose outing with plans to hang some parachute cord on all my stands for bow ropes. I get way out towards the back of my property where my food plots are gonna be and go to one of my stands that is some pretty thick scrub. I had made a few calls on my Primos The Freak glass call but no return calls could be heard on the way out to this stand and a couple at the stand before climbing up and tying a bow rope on. While up in my stand I thought I could here some clucking coming from my woods but it was sorta windy so I did pay any more attention to it. Once back on the ground I thought I heard it again but closer. I put my head net and gloves on and sit right at the tree my stand is in. Grabbed the 870 and straped the Primos slate call to my leg and started a few clucks of my own. The tree is in a fairly thick area with 2 grassy log roads on either side and a "H" bar connecting them in the middle right where the stand is. I hear more clucks and I respond in turn trying to cut her off and make her mad. Then a hen pops out from behind some bruch and long grass about 8 yards away and clucks at me, J hooks around and goes back the way she came. All I saw was her neck and head. To thick to even see her black body threw all that greenery no less any other turkeys that may of been with her. I waited and called some more trying to peeve her off. I was hoping she was dragging a Tom with her but that was the last I saw or heard from her and no gobbles all mornig anywhere. It was exciting but again "close but no cigar"... Thats it for me this week. Got to work all weekend starting Wednesday night. I have the last few days next week to go so I may try this spot again...
