thebig1
I'm looking for opinions on a quality ammunition that produces consistent shot placement. i'll be shooting a 30-30 probably in 150gr. round. what are your opinions? i've been using remington but am hoping to get something better this year. Jeramie
Re: Quality Ammunition IMHO, I wouldn't switch. Remington's regular ammo, namely Core-lokt, will be just as deadly as anything else out there. I read that they retain 90% of their weight so they are very deadly. I have been shooting their ammo out of both my 30-06 and 3030 for years. They really have great ammo at a very reasonable price. The core-lokt I shoot out of my 30-06 shoot well beyond my capabilities. As long as you're getting tight groups at 100yds then you're more then getting the job done. Jmo...... AJ
Re: Quality Ammunition The shooter has more to do with consistant shot placement than the ammo, to a degree. Under most hunting conditions, the hunter has more to do with accuracy than the ammo. How does your gun shoot with Rem ammo? There is nothing wrong with Remington ammo. Winchester, Federal, PMC, Hornady, and others are all good quality also.
thebig1
Re: Quality Ammunition the problem is that i can't ever get a good quality grouping. i know you guys don't know me from adam, but i am a guy who prides myself on hitting EXACTLY where i'm aiming or i don't feel worthy to enter the woods. this goes for my bow also. So with that said, I DON'T MISS! this is why it pains me to find a good quality ammo so that i may achieve such accuracy. i just went and bought some federal off my local shop and will try them out this year. for next year though i will order from cabelas some hornady also and try them. thanks for all your help guys, i really do appreciate it. JimT
Re: Quality Ammunition None of us can tell you what will group the best in your specific rifle. You will have to buy a bunch of different brands and find out on your own. My Marlin shoots Core-Lokt 170 gr ammo pretty good. Not great but good. This is the last of my rifles I have to "dial in". Guest Colorado Bob
Re: Quality Ammunition Also some guns like certain weight bullets. My 30/06 loves just about all 180 grains-----150 grains are terrible out of it. So, i stick with the 180's. I would try 150 & 170 grain bullets out of that 30-30. Plus if you don't like the Rem----try Federal. Most guys here really like the Federal Premium.
Guest thundar7
Re: Quality Ammunition i had a 30-30 marlin an i tryed every ammo in 170 an 150 grain i couldnt group with remington or winchester to save my life then i went to federal an could group great with both 170 an 150 grain so i stuck with them now i use nothin but the federal priemuims they cost a little more than the rest but in my book those federal premiums sirra game kings boat tail soft points are the way i go

But when I switched over to Federal they grouped great! But now I use my 270 and still shoot Federal ammo with good results!
robk
Re: Quality Ammunition for good quality ammo you can look at just about any manufacturer and find some that will shoot great or all of them will shoot great but you have to be the man or person to make that decision. a lot of itmes it is not the ammo itself but the bullet weigh that will dictate the round to use and the rest is up to you and your shooting form rob k
Swamphunter
Re: Quality Ammunition [ QUOTE ] this is why it pains me to find a good quality ammo so that i may achieve such accuracy. [/ QUOTE ] I would suggest reloading your own. I ahve been doing it for several years now and all of my deer have been killed with a bullet that I handloaded. You can tinker with the bullets, loads, primers and powders and as long as you stay with-in guidlines, your shooting safe loads.
strubedog
Re: Quality Ammunition Clean all the copper and powder out of your barrel and go buy 3-4 different mfg of shells at 150 gr. If you don't get the groups you like then switch gr. and start all over. Make sure you don't shoot too fast as to heat the barrel up as that will throw off accuracy as well. Assuming the gun has been shot before when was the last time you got the copper out of the barrel?
johnf
Re: Quality Ammunition My Marlin 336 shoots about a 4 inch group at 100 yards with 170 grains and about 1 1/2 inch group with 150 grains. Both Winchester power point. I've shot the 150 gr. since I figured that out.
