Swamphunter
I am actually going to try the Jim Fletcher peep as my pro shop guy said that the Shurz a peep is really nice but sometimes you can have a strand running through the center of the sight picture and for some people it can be annoying. (I would be one of those).. He said for me to put a couple hundred more arrows through it and he would put the new peep in an turn the bottom of the string to make it align. This should make it so I can get rid of the peep tubing. I am also going to keep my arrows the same size they are now (300's), but will trim them back about 3/4". I am going to raise my poundage up 4lbs to put me at the full 70lb draw weight. This should at least bump me up from 262 into the 270 fps range. From reading what you all have written, I am now convinced it is not such a big deal. I also tried shooting at the different yardages and with sighting in about an 1 - 1 1/2" high at 10 yards, I am only about 1 or 2" low at 30 - 32 yards. It is tough to get a real solid tight group yet due to my peep not aligning like it should, but from what I can see that will do what I want. My maximum shot is 25-30 yards. AdvantageTimberLou
Re: Here is my decision for gaining the speed I want My theory is this Ken, for what I shoot and the speed my bow shoots, I can't see a deer knowing the difference in FPS, all that know is the arrow is there and something stings!!! Its like broadheads, some will debate about what the best is, to me, I'd say their all good because I wouldn't want to take any of them in my stomach!! A broadhead is a broadhead!! Sharp is sharp!! I may get away from the tube style peep myself. That new G5 peep is nice but pricey but like I said, 30 yards is max for me, I can go 40 if need be but my current stand just offers 30 yard shots when is fine with me! Good luck with shortening your arrows too, make sure when you draw back you still have plenty of room in the front of the rest with 3/4" or an 1" of arrow and make sure your broadhead does not contact your riser. Your new bow should easily allow for this. Good luck Ken and happy shooting with your new toy!
Swamphunter
Re: Here is my decision for gaining the speed I want It isn't about the fps as far as the deer is concerned...it is mainly due to the fact that I want to use 1 pin. I shoot mechanicals so the rest clearance thing isn't an issue with trimming the arrows a bit. Thanks though Lou!
AdvantageTimberLou
Re: Here is my decision for gaining the speed I want What mechanical are you using Ken? Single pins are great, I have 3 currently, had an adjustable on my old Bear bow but was always worried about the deer moving and not being able to slide it to the new yardage. My new bow wouldn't be an issue but I opted to get the new Fuse Buckhorn and love it. Whatever you choose Ken, good luck this fall!
Swamphunter
Re: Here is my decision for gaining the speed I want I am using the Rocky Mountain Revolutions...well I was..I heard they have sold so who knows...maybe they will discontinue them.. Guest PAT_PATTERSON
Re: Here is my decision for gaining the speed I want Ken, If I might throw something else out here. I shoot a single pin, although my bow is a little faster than yours(but not by much). I keep my bow set at 25 yards when hunting( I shoot a slider) I know where to hold over or under if needed. I can move my sight but most times I don't need to. Shortening your arrows may cause you problems with being too stiff(spine) have you checked all of this. It will really show up when you shoot broadheads, maybe not as much with mech heads but you will never know until you do it. Now I suggest you only do 2 arrows first to see how they react. if they are good then do the rest, I would hate to see you cut your arrows to short and have no use for them. You get my drift.... Guest UltraTec360
Re: Here is my decision for gaining the speed I want It's all about confidence, and if these changes improve your confidence in your set up, then mission accomplished. Even though your arrows will be a tad lighter, the speed gain should also gain you some KE. You can't shoot an arrow fast enough for it to be "flat" anyway, just flatter. Pat is right on the money. I do the same thing. Keep my slider set at 25 yards. 1" high at 20, dead on at 25, 1 1/2" low at 30. I just don't think an inch and a half will make a hoot of difference on a deer. I hold right on and let 'er fly!
VTbowman
Re: Here is my decision for gaining the speed I want Ken if you find your having issue with your peep aligning with no tubing, like I did, I went to one of these speed nocks by TRU. BTW They are lighter in weight then 1 brass nocking point. Just an FYI http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templa...&hasJS=true
Swamphunter
Re: Here is my decision for gaining the speed I want Man I like that! It doesn't cause any torque on your arrow does it? I think I may add that anyway if it gains even a few feet per second.
VTbowman
Re: Here is my decision for gaining the speed I want No torgue at all I used it for 2 seasons and it shot excellent! I was getting 1" groups at 40 yards when I did my part... LOL Its all alum with a stainless steel screw and believe me once you tighten it down it does NOT move, spin, etc... Thats where I had my doubts at 1st but its solid once on... I would lock-tite the screw though just to be safe. I tried to get my bow tuned to accept a tubeless peep before using this, but it eventually always spun on me or did not line up. I dont like the shurz a peep with a few strands in the way of the opening so I went to this... Especially at last light. I kept my regular tube peep and just ground off the little post that the tubing stuck on to so I could keep the peep I was use to. Then I kept 1 cat whisker trimmed short and had it about 4" off my cam and this TRU Speed Nock as a nock point. Good Luck!

Leo
Re: Here is my decision for gaining the speed I wa Or you could use a string loop and one of these. No Peep You can install a kisser to get use to this at first, then it this thing really is great.
Guest HaDeRonDa
Re: Here is my decision for gaining the speed I wa Have you calculated what an additional 10 - 20 FPS does to an arrow at 20-25 yds as far as arrow drop is concerned? If you are shooting spots that is one thing or is it you just want to shoot that special hair that is just behind the front shoulder of the deer you are aiming at? Come on??? and to VTBowman? 1" groups at 40 yds? Did you add the arrow diameter into that equation? Man, you shoould be shooting for a company or better yet, designing bow! I might believe that on occasion and I use that term very carefully but you can't pull my leg on that one! Sorry for the highjack Swamphunter. The extra weight that you are pulling may end your bow hunting bowhunting career after that surgery you had. As advise from one archer to another who cares, 4 lbs can make a world of difference at 20 degrees as compared to 70 out in the backyard. Be safe and keep your shoulder. Shoot a lighter weight for that shoulder. Is ending your hoby worth the one pin shoot?
VTbowman
Re: Here is my decision for gaining the speed I wa Yep 1" at 40 yards. It was a 1" dia orange sticker and I was hitting it with 3 arrows 7 times out of 10 one summer. I was dialed in. But if you must be an @%6 about it I was not putting the calipers on it so it may of been 1 1/4"...

VTbowman
Re: Here is my decision for gaining the speed I wa Hmmm. Surprizes me you are not that good the way you share your "opinions" on everyone else abilities and choice , etc...... Never claimed to be better then anyone here. Not once person did I. All I said is I was getting 1" grouping at 40 yards consistantly one summer. Why does that seem so impossible. I have seen several people shoot that well. (??) Not enverone has desired to compete or turn pro just because they are good with there equipment.. I definately am not anymore since switching to trad but then again I guss I should of gotten that good before switch, right? Sorry Ken for junking up your post... [/ QUOTE ] I was wondering the same thing. Got my popcorn and soda by my side. Na VTbowman, I'm not in the elite group and if I was, I still would say I'm not but it is ok if I have an opinion right? I mean, I do have your permission? We all have different philosophies or even "opinions" but much of the psychology of shooting as well as for mechanics are the same from one shooter to the next. Have a good one VT and take care. Swamphunter as I said, just be careful with your shoulder and good luck.
browning_gold_12
Re: Here is my decision for gaining the speed I wa hey swamp, be careful jacking it all the way up. i did that with my golden eagle once, and it shot all over the place. it was shooting very well to begin with, at about 78lbs. went up to just over 80 and it went nuts. my 40 yard groups went from .75'' to at least 1.25'' j/k about the group size. when i let it back down, went to shooting good again. guess it didnt like being maxed out???
