Hope the one pins serves your shooting well. As far as the additional posts after his, I consider it rude and nothing but sturring trouble. VTbowman ended any future posts that I may have had. He did a fine job at it as well. We simply agreed to disagree and everyone hunts by their own ethical standards. It's not a group thingy like girls going to the bathroom. It's kinda hard to actually find out what ones standards are by one post that they make or even hunting with them a dozen or so times. So, it's great that we are a "BOB" but it does hurt all of us in the long run when it comes to the buddy postings. Oh and Vthunter, I guess you haven't been around many guys that shoot objects to increase their shooting skills and that is ok. When you get bored and can stoot the crap off a flys butt at 40 yards you will probably try the other shooting games or maybe you'll just pick up a ash/maple and sinue self-bow. Timing and the moving target it what shooting the hole in the steel disk is about. You either score or you trash an arrow. That just cost you how much?? The games some guys play to get better. Many great trad shooters get into the games more than compound shooters. At least of the ones I know. Peace be to all and have a good Memorial Day. Tennis Balls, Frizbies, and such but never steel plates, I don't make that kind of money to trash good equipment.... As for my 40 yrd. shooting,, lets just say Im not a slouch... But it's all good.. I've smashed quite a few arrows myself, but I've also repeatedly made those shots as well as shots at extremely long distances.......but hey, thanks for questioning my abilities. sureshot Posted May 30, 2006 Report Share Posted May 30, 2006 Re: Thinking about putting a pin on the recurve I shot a recurve for about 10 years,[just got a coumpound about 6 years ago couse the majority of huntign I do is stalking mule deer and getting within 15-20 yards is much harder than 30]I shot at least 18 deer with that recurve and never used a site, what I did was use the arrow as the site!I had a a point on my cheek were I held every time, just like a site, at 10 yards the tip of the arrow is on the belly of the deer[or about 8 inches ] below the taget, at 15 yards dead on and at 20 yards abotu 8 inches high or on the back of a deer,just like a site to me and worked great, I can not shoot 1-2" groups at 20 yards but know i can put 5 arrows in a 5" group at 20 yards which is max I will ever shoot a deer with a recurve[actually farthest was 21] The biggest thing is keepign the same point you hold on your cheek,also I could not use tabs it threw me all over I used strait fingers, the blisters stopped the pain after a couple weeks of practice in the spring lol!! No idea if this will help but its what I did, biggest thing with recurve hunting is keeping the composure,lots loose it when a deer is 40 yards, let alone being 10, keep the cool, and trust me it will make you a way better hunter,If you feel a site will help go for it,biggest thing is making a good kill, I do agree that shooting any weapon is in the mind,you get confidence and you are set, you get thinking about it and you will screw up! good luck with what ever you decide!! It may make you less of a "purest", but no less of a hunter. A hunter is not judged by his equipment, but by his actions. Ethics and respect for the game you hunt have never been a issue for you.
