BamaTrophyHunter
Re: Dove hunting argentina is the best place to go they have a season that is july to august if i remeber right. i have never hunted pheasants but they are different than quail
Tominator
Re: Dove hunting I've never hunted dove outside of Ohio, but I think because they are a migratory bird, the farther south you go, the better off you are. If I were looking to travel for dove, staying in the U.S., I'd head to Texas. No, they're nothing like quail or pheasant (unless you've participated in a driven hunt for pheasant). I'd guess 99% of dove shooting is pass shooting. Most guys set up on power lines, tree lines, etc. near a water source or food source and shoot them as the pass by. Tons of fun and it sure does train your shooting eye.
Texan_Til_I_Die
Re: Dove hunting To find the doves, you've got to find the food. Agriculture and native grasses that have seeds are the best. Around here it's usually either harvested sorghum or standing native sunflowers.

I could be wrong.

Dakota
Re: Dove hunting We could take you up to some public land here in South Dakota, Steve. There's a lake that the doves stay by in the day and in the late afternoon they come to roost in a grove of pine trees. If you can get in-between the lake and te trees, you'll be good. Make sure you take at least two boxes so you can fill your 15 bird daily limit. You ought to come up in Sept. w/ us, buddy. It's a lot of fun. Tominator
Re: Dove hunting First couple of times out, I average about 30 to 40 shots for a 15 bird limit. Towards the end of the season I can get a limit with one box. My best day was a limit of 15 birds in 17 shots. I remember I was 11 for 11 at one point. Tominator
Re: More Dove Pics Yep. It's pretty easy to tell a young bird from an old bird when you pick them up. Meat from the young ones is the best!
