Texan_Til_I_Die
Re: HELP QUICK Uh, if you don't have an antivirus program, how do you know you have a worm? Do you know the difference between a Worm and a Virus and a Trojan? Here's a quick definition: A virus is a program that infects a computer by attaching itself to another program or file, and propagating itself when that program or file is opened. A computer can become infected by files downloaded over a network or from the Internet, or by the installation of new software, or by executing an email attachment. The main characteristic of a virus, is that it infects otherwise “normal” files on a computer. For example, the CEEFOUR virus infects Word documents and will spread to all Word documents that a user opens on an infected system. A worm is a computer program that can make copies of itself, and then spread through connected systems without any user intervention. For example, the SASSER worm exploits a flaw in a Microsoft Windows application to propagate. It will scan all systems that it can find, including systems that are attached to a live Internet connection, and when it finds a system that has not had the flaw patched; it will copy itself onto the new system. A Trojan is a program that appears to be useful and harmless but which has a hidden payload. Many of the free toolbars, search engines, screen savers and other supposedly helpful programs that you can download for free from the Internet contain Trojans. The only way a system becomes infected with a Trojan is through the intentional installation of a program.
