Turkeygirl
Well after spooking a turkey when walking across a field last night, not sure if hen or not, I went out this morning ,set up below a ridge where I thought the turkey might have roosted. Sat until about 6:30am, moved towards a field incase the turkey was out in it, and I spook it out of its roost, talk about a late rooster! Well I moved through different spots, spending an hour at each, with no luck. Thus, today marks probably the last time I'll be out this year. That makes 3 long, sad years without a turkey and it is really frustrating to see other people have luck and nothing year. All I know is I'm not watching turkey hunting on TV for awhile, just makes me sick. I guess I'll just have to wait until fall and duke it out again with the turkeys. I did see a tree that had 7 fat grey squirrels in it, never saw so many in one spot, too bad I have to wait until September 1. My mom loves wild turkey and I would just love to get another one, for her. Well there were some good moments despite no luck with the turkeys...seeing god's wonderful creation and being amazed at the detail in it, seeing some bucks in velvet one evening running around and playing in a swamp, having a Common Yellowthroat Warbler about 3 feet from me singing, pretty cool. Congrats to all of you who filled a tag or tags and to those of you who didn't have any luck, join my club and keep your head up for the fall and next spring

borch
Re: Disappointing season Sounds like although you didn't harvest a gobbler it was still a successful season. You saw birds, had a close entounter or two and like you said, saw many glorious things. Have a grerat rest of the year until spring comes around again. 2labs
Re: Disappointing season I had a great season in N Y , I saw alot of birds and tagged 2 long beards, I cant believe you dont see or hear more birds in Allegany co. I live in Livingston co and there are a lot of birds around, although not as many as 10 years ago. The best part of the season is just being out there in the woods in the Spring Mornings!!!! Hoyt03
Re: Disappointing season You have to be the king of bumping birds this year haha, seems like every time you would make a move you would be on a turkey lol. I struck out this year as well. I had a blast trying though and had some good times in the field with good friends, and learned alot which is always a good thing. I'm starting to switch back into deer mode, but come this fall those turkeys better watch out.
dsharp01
Re: Disappointing season I too am from Allegany Co., Clarksville to be exact. There are birds around but I think they got started early because the unusually warm temps in April and ALOT of hens. I'm just looking forward to this fall and spring '07'. Hopefully it will be better.(can't get any worse)
snapper
Re: Disappointing season Don't feel bad tg....I know of at least one really big die hard turkey hunter from this board who didn't get a chance to hunt this season. I also know a few seasoned veterans who struck out this year as well. Sounds like you still had some good times afield...better luck next year! RangerClay
Re: Disappointing season You are not alone T-Girl. I couldn't put meat on the table either. I guess I will be cooking more venison this weekend. Ranger
maytom
Re: Disappointing season After taking one on opening day, it has been very tuff sledding ever since. I went out this morning, the last day here in NY, and finally had one sound off only to loose him to hens!! I agree, it sure hasn't been a spectacular season bird wise, but it was sure better than last year!! Look's like another single instead of a double year!! Rhino
Re: Disappointing season Sorry to hear you didn't put some meat on the table for your mother this year Ruth. Sounds like you had some memorable moments though. Like snapper said there's one serious die hard turkey hunter in this forum that didn't even get a chance to hunt this spring. I also know several die hard turkey hunters around my neck of the woods that went birdless too. One in particular spent close to 20 days hunting hard this spring and never had a legal bird in range. He did manage to mess himself up a couple of times by spooking a couple of gobblers.

AdvantageTimberLou
Re: Disappointing season not alone, my season was odd, got real warm early in May, rained for over a week, mosquitoes would carry you out of the woods and the day after the season ended, 3 turkeys were in my backyard 10 paces from my front porch!! I swear they know when seasons start and end! LOL!! Then again that is why its called hunting and not called "getting"
