WestKyTeacher
Hey guys, I had to run my utilities across a neighbor's field, which has a lot of weeds on it, is in poor condition, and is mowed off twice a year to keep it from growing up. Now that the utilities are in, I am responsible for sowing some type of seed; they really don't care as long as it is green and a perennial. My question, what do I plant this time of year that will be best for the deer and turkey? Hey, I might as well get something good out of my labors. It's about 450ft long by 100ft wide across the corner of their field next to my woods. Any help is appreciated! Mark
Strut10
Re: Neighbor\'s Land, what to plant now? I'd probably go to the feed store and get some pasture mix.......maybe oversow it with some buckwheat for a cover and to improve the soil. The deer & turkeys will love the buckwheat. slughunter
Re: Neighbor\'s Land, what to plant now? there are a lot of diferent things that you could plant, I would say something that tolerates heat and sunlight the best. I planted some techomate monster mix with unbeleivable results.
dogdoc
Re: Neighbor\'s Land, what to plant now? there are several pasture mixes out that contain a variety of perennial legumes and perennial grasses. However--if you want you could just plant a nice ladino clover/chicory plot---both perennials that will attract both deer and turkeys. todd
wtnhunt
Re: Neighbor\'s Land, what to plant now? Got to agree with doc here. Would most likely go with some type of clover, however it is not really the best time to plant clovers here.

[/ QUOTE ] Yeah, we had to have a backhoe dig it to get the required depth. With the neighbor being nice enough to let us go across their land, we disc up more to make it more level and blend in better.
Guest generallee
Re: Neighbor\'s Land, what to plant now? I agree with dogdoc. Ive got a clover/chicory plot on my property that withstands the georgia heat real well. The chicory has a deep root and is very drought resistant and does well with heat.
