i was wanting to buy that 270 wsm a buddy has the weathrby 270 mag but i cant afford that does anyone know if this would be just as good a gun as its counter part the weatherby?

I don't think you gain all that much over the ole 270 Win. Plus ammo is so much cheaper.

I understand that these WSM are new & are getting alot of print----but they really don't gain much over the old standbys.

Sounds like the magnumitis disease is raring up again.

The WSM is very close to the Wby when both are reloaded. In factory ammo, the Wby has the edge.

The WSM uses cheaper ammo. Finding 270 Wby ammo can be more difficult.

For deer hunting, neither are necessary. The WSM or the Wby will not kill a deer any deader than a regular .270 Winchester. You will get a more expensive gun, way more expensive ammo, more muzzle blast, more recoil, and only 3" of drop difference between the .270 Win, the 270 Wby, and the 270 WSM at 300 yards. All have more than enough energy well past what should be attempted on big game.
