wtnhunt
Found this in the garden tilling between my corn a couple weeks ago. First one we have ever found up here. It is just under 2 inches long, was thinking it was either an arrowhead or a spear tip.

Texan_Til_I_Die
Re: Arrowhead? Too big for an arrowhead and too small for a spear. It was probably either a blade or an atlatl (dart) point.

New [/ QUOTE ] Come this way, we have slews full. When I was a kid we use to pic them up. My dad still has boxes full. We use to literally just pick them up off the ground. unioncountyslayer
Re: Arrowhead? Man, I love hunting arrowheads. There are a lot to be found in NC around the triad area, Raleigh, Durham, Chapel Hill. Found quite a few at my wife's grandparents farm just outside of Raleigh. Great Find! Tominator
Re: Arrowhead? Yep, sure looks like one William. I found yet another one yesterday. This one doesn't look nearly as good as the one I posted a week ago or so.

M00N
Re: Arrowhead? I remember hunting for them as a kid on the banks of the river here. I have quite a big collection of them stashed away somewhere in the attic along with a clay pipe and some clay bowls.

Texan_Til_I_Die
Re: Arrowhead? True arrowheads are almost never over 1.5 inches long. Plus, the Indians only used the bow and arrow for the past 1000 years or so. For the first 10,000 years that they were in North America, they used spears and atlatls so there are many more of those types of points around than the so called "bird points". BTW - For those who have collections. Do you know that those artifacts may be worth anywhere from a couple of hundred dollars each to as much as a thousand dollars each? Some of the really old stuff that is perfectly intact and high quality workmanship fetches some big bucks at trade shows.

Had a couple offers on mine over the years. I just was young at the time and didn't want to part with them because they were my 'treasures'. Still have them, just stored them away so they were not out where someone in the house can break them. I found almost all mine on a restricted property area that I had permission to arrowhead hunt on when younger. They were found along the Susquehanna River. Some are pretty neat looking.
