Electronic Dog collar

My lab is almost 9 months old and doing really well given the time I have to spend with her. Although, she can be knot-headed at times and runs off occasionally. I'm thinking about going to an e-collar for training, and have been looking at the sportDOG™ Field Trainer Standard SD-400. Its in my price range and I think it will be good for working close distances. Has anyone had any experiance with this collar, or have any other advice?

Thanks in advance

Re: Electronic Dog collar

hey aaron--nothing wrong with the SportDog training collars. Several members in my training group use the SportDog collar. An e-collar is a must in my opinion. Just remember--you really need to collar condition the dog to the collar first before using it as a training aid. The collar does not teach--it reinforces what has already been taught to the dog. I would really recommend getting a good training manual that will walk you thru collar conditioning, force fetching, force to pile, and casting drills. One that I really like is Smartwork by Evan Graham.

good luck and let me know if you have any further questions.
