NY911Bowhunter
I am thinking about geting my family one for Christmas. Anyone have one? Let me know the good, the bad, the ugly? I have a good yard, plenty of love, patience, and a toddler looking for a puppy!
Bushman
Re: Golden Retrievers We have a two year old Golden. You will not go wrong with this breed. The only downside is they need frequent brushing. If you don't mind hairy clothes than there is no better dog for your family.
archerjg
Re: Golden Retrievers They are a good breed, However they do shed quite a lot. I have a cousin who has one and he has no complaints about the dog. Archerjg
NY911Bowhunter
Re: Golden Retrievers ooooo, I hate shedding - especially with the hardwood floors - always dust bunnies! I guess I can learn to live with it though
archerjg
Re: Golden Retrievers Because my Chesapeake Bay Retriever is in and out all the time she sheds and she has very short curly hair. We have to vacuum on average twice a week. If she was always outside she would not shed as bad. It is not so bad theough and we have hardwood floors as well. NY911Bowhunter
Re: Golden Retrievers Oh heck - I vacuum every two days anyway so that wont be a big deal!! Yeah, I'm a neat freak.
HuntingInMaine
Re: Golden Retrievers My mother has had nothing but goldens and both have been great dogs. The only thing is they have WAY too much energy as puppies...hope your child has lots of energy to match! (just think how well they will both sleep! lol) And make sure you get it from a reputable dealer, my parents lost their first dog just before he turned 12 years old (natural causes) and fell in love with the first puppies they saw. The one they brought home was just diagnosed with hip dysplacia (probably didn't spell that right) and he was just shy of being one year old. One hip is completely out of the joint and the other one is loose. They haven't seen the specialist yet, but the operation is going to cost around $2,000!
