New Gun!

Recommended Posts

Last week I purchased my first ever new rifle and wouldn't you know it isn't even for me! I finally saved up the cash to buy my son his first deer/elk rifle. We went with the Remington Model 7 Youth in 7mm-08. What a sweet little gun! He will use it for a couple years before passing it down to his younger brother and then handed down one more time to my youngest. That gun will get a lot of use over the years. Can't wait to get a scope mounted and start shooting.

good gun

I got one for my wife 2 yrs ago and she loves it. You might want to look at putting a recoil pad on it though because it kicks alot more than I thought it would, more than my 742 30-06 does. We tried several and ended up with the Simms. I can ring a 8" gong at 350 yards all day with it.

NOTE: We got the best results with Winchester Ballistic Silvertips, .98" group for a 3 shot group.

I've got an 11 month old son. Are you going to be done with that gun in about 10 years? wink.gif

You are wise to ask now - believe me! I looked hard for a used one and couldn't find one or was always a day late. You'll have to remind me in ten years ok grin.gif

I know that gun will hold its resale value well, which made it easier to spend the $$ on a new one.

Re: good gun

The little Model 7 is not just a kids gun. You can always get a stock with adult length of pull to fit them well into their hunting career. I happen to have a pair of them myself. One in 243 Win and one in 308 Win. They sure are nice when walking long distances and covering a lot of ground.
