Bond Posted June 3, 2006 Report Share Posted June 3, 2006 I've been looking for a new climbing treestand. All I want is something simple without a lot of straps and armrests and big seats. Those just get in the way and make noise anyway. And I like simple stands because they are a lot cheaper. I see a picture of the Lone wolf climber and I thought it would be perfect. Nothing extra that I don't need and it looks cheap. I click on the picture for more details. $330! All it is is a platform and a little something for you to sit on. I think you pay a premium because of the way they cast their aluminum which really reduces the weight. I think they are one of the lighter stands on the market. There are a lot of stands close to their going price. Needless to say they are not even close in their weight, silence and ease of use. Second to none in my opinion. Lighter and no joints or cross peieces to squeek, etc. They are super solid stands and are well made. I agree they are way over priced though. Try looking for a used one... I had a lone wolf it wasnt a climber but I can tell you it was awesome. the best stand Ive ever had. It got stolen a couple years ago. Plus, the solid cast aluminum platform is silent, no welds to pop or squeak and not hollow tubes to echo. If you haven't used or seen a Lone Wolf used in person, you wouldn't understand why they are that expensive. If you have used one or seen one used in person, you know why they are that price. [/ QUOTE ] I picked up a Lone Wolf climber on sale at Gander for around $200 a few months ago - could not resist this great deal (40% off clearance)! As Chrud and others explained, the way their aluminum is cast makes them inherently quieter and lighter than other stands -the one I bought only weighs 14 lbs. I've always hunted with fixed and ladder stands, but wanted to try a climber to give me more flexibility - after all, the first time at a stand location is usually the best, right? Think about it this way, just as an example, if a lone wolf last three times as long as another stand, and you are paying 300 for the LW, and 150ish for the other stand, for every one time you buy a LW you will have to replace that other stand twice, making it a total of three other stands totaling 450, buying the lone wolf would have actually saved you money.
