rossman
Re: I just don\'t get it With a rifle, I would never grunt or make any noise. The bullet will break both shoulders if he was hit there. No need but remember, the "pros" on the hunting shows are cool, and that may be the cool thing to do. And, the areas they hunt are populated with many mature bucks. Not like the areas we hunt where there are only 1 or 2 big boys that we've seen and can hunt. They are hunting properties that are managed and have lots of big bucks. So if they spook one another will come trotting by in another 10 minutes. They have multiple chances to a kill big buck per hunt so they can mess around and get that deer to look at them. But where I hunt and see a trophy buck, that may be my only opportunity for the year so I won't risk anything!!!!!! --rossman
wtnhunt
Re: I just don\'t get it Really is kind of interesting following this thread. [ QUOTE ] I'm still trying to figure out why it is that a TV hunter with a highpower centerfire deer rifle thinks he has to pass a deer (or bear or elk or whatever) if it's not 100% still and perfectly broadside [/ QUOTE ] Then again you do see some who claim to make "great shots" who really took rushed shots on moving animals with bad angles. Always find it interesting to see on some shows how they will play slow mo up until right before the projectile is going to hit, especially on bowhunting. Editing is in many cases in my opinion done a bit too much.
QDMAworks4me
Re: I just don\'t get it I do it to stop walking deer or running deer, and sometimes for deer that are stopped because you can not perdict when the deer is going to take it's next step and you do not want to wound the deer. Tom2008
Re: I just don\'t get it It makes no sense to me either. I have noticed that they do stop the deer everytime to make the deer look at the camera. I'd rather take the shot while I have it istead stalling another 5 seconds to get a deer to look at me. Guest ILclimber
Re: I just don\'t get it I believe that some pro's may do this, but mostly I believe that they do this to stop the animal. And I also think that people get confused with watching this on t.v., because they may have never done it before. But, it is only natural that a whitetail, or any animal in the wild, when ever they hear something, they are just like us and look up to see where the sound was coming from. Doc
Re: I just don\'t get it Of course when it comes to bowhunting, these actions will put an otherwise calm deer on high alert making it much more likely to jump the string. I would rather take a shot at a casual, slow walking deer than one that is put into a spring-loaded position by some sound that I make. And, of course, about the last thing I want is for the deer to be looking straight at me which deer-blatting noises or other attempts at stopping the animal will cause. If the deer is moving too fast for a decent shot, then (and only then) would I be tempted to let go with any kind of a sound. Of course, with a gun I suppose a lot of these concerns don't really apply except for the occasional time when your best attempts at stopping the deer actually make him speed up or simply take off on a dead run (which I have seen happen on TV).
