What was your first concert?

My first was ZZ top in about 83 I am guessing...right about the time they came out with Afterburner. Coolest thing I have ever seen.

It was at the Omni in Atlanta and their stage was a mock up of like a 55 chevy with the antique looking radio and speakers, etc.

They came out playing most of their old stuff, which was great. When it was time to play the new stuff, they sent up a huge plume of smoke to cover the entire stage. When the smoke cleared, the stage had converted to a modern day radio and speakers/guages and they were up on top of the speakers with their pink, fuzzy guitars spinning on a belt buckle assemby of some sort. They caught the neck of the guitars at the same time and started playing.

It was amazing.

I also saw Journey and Bon Jovi.....Jon stole the show!

Wow, the 80's those were the days.....pre-9/11 and for the most part pre-terrorism. Well, there was that Carter administation which most considered full-blown terror! laugh.gif

Re: What was your first concert?

Don't laugh................Richard Marx. He opened for REO Speedwagon. Think it was in 1987. I actually sneaked backstage and sat on someone's guitar box and listened to Richard Marx practice. smile.gifgrin.gif When I got caught, the guy gave me and my Mom and my aunt VIP backstage passes. cool.gif VERY COOL.

After that I saw Bon Jovi ( AWESOME show...I lost my hearing ), George Michael ( I know, I know..this was before he came out) and ALABAMA!!! cool.gif

Re: What was your first concert?

It was a punk rock band, NOFX...no I'm not really a punk rock fan, but some friends were, so I went. I got spit on by the bassist during the second song, I was mad at first, but then realized it was nothing perosnal...because apparantly, that's just what he did...the entire show. confused.gif I didn't have fun. wink.gif

Richard Marx, huh? laugh.gif

I also saw Rush which was an extremely loud show...I mean extremely. The cool thing was that we were on the side of the stage. So at intermission, they pushed Neal Pert out to center stage in his completely round drum set. He did the most amazing drum solo I have ever seen. He would bounce the sticks (lighted sticks somehow) about 20 feet in the air, catch them, and start drumming behind his head. It was amazing.

I remember in the 80's when the concert scenes were a much bigger deal than they seem to be now. Everyone hinged on next announcement.....that and those stupid little buttons that had your favorite band names, which you would proudly display on the new Members only jacket your poor parents just bought.

Ah, those were the days.

Motley Crue, Dr. Feelgood tour in late '89 or early '90.

Since then I've been to AC/DC, KISS, Chris Isaak, Dr. John, Bryan Adams, Steve Miller, Jimmy Buffet, Ted Nugent, Skid Row, Faster Pussycat, Clint Black, Gear Daddies, Lee Greenwood, Slash's Snakepit...and some others that I'm surely forgetting.

1980, Bruce Springsteen, 8th row. I could see myself in Clarence Clemmons sax I was so close. I believe that was The River tour.

I should have stopped right there, because that was, hands down the first and best out of all the ones I went to.

I haven't been to one in close to 15 years now I think.
