jdickey
Re: Soccer Does the name Andres Cantor.... ring a bell or more famously....... GOOOOAAAALLLL I got bit by the soccer bug in the mid 70's in Dallas, played left fullback on a club team with players from England, Belgium, France, India, and Romania. The best thing wasn't so much the play..... it was the after game celebrations... win or lose. Later coached my son's under 12 team to a State Championship in 1986..... referee for 8 years in Divsion 3 college mens, Division 1 womens. Went to the venue games in Dallas in the 1994 World Cup. The most spectacular goal was from Jurgen Klingsman, now Germany's coach. In a later game with Sweden and Korea, we joined about 800 people from Sweden in Dallas' West end for yet another - post game celebration. Brazil should take the Copo del Mundo again, on paper they are the strongest, but some stranger things can happen. US comes in ranked 5th by FIFA and 80-1 favorite. They got robbed in the '02 World Cup and have a stronger team now than that team in '02. Got a month to see who's gonna be there.... but right now.... I'd pick Brazil vs Netherlands. Here's the link to the bracket WORLD CUP MATCHES I heard that only 32 Billion people will follow the World Cup this time around!
jdickey
Re: Soccer USA was asleep today! Man that was very, very weak on their part! But... the Czech team is ranked #2 for the World Cup!

arrow32
Re: Soccer I hear you. I tell you it seemed like they passed the ball back more than forward. I know you need to do that sometimes but come on every pass moved backwards. Didnt even attack the goal that much from the start.
jgbennett6
Re: Soccer Yeah, it was a very poor showing for the US.......not enough effective runs were taking place and too much wasted movement off of the ball left us on our heels. that and we looked liek we had been spanked the night before. not enough attack in the Us players..hopefully they can turn it around. bfletch7441
Re: Soccer If they play the way they did against Czech Rep. for the next two games, they'll end up with zero points all together. I thought it was a terrible showing. The Czech's on the other hand, BOY, they goooooooood. It's going to be fun to watch the rest of the tournament though. tp793
Re: Soccer being a sweeper myself, i was realllly disappointed in oguchi onyewu. some of his clears were just plain horrible, and if my memory serves me right, one resulted more or less in a czech goal. im just confused how you can come out and play that flat in the WORLD CUP? It could very easily be 3 and out for USA.
jdickey
Re: Soccer Did anyone notice how many players on the Swiss team had Spanish last names! The US is reading too much of their past headlines ...... the Azurri is gonna kick their buttocks too.....! Coach Arena thinks he can find the answer by changing up his lineup..... we'll see! jgbennett6
Re: Soccer well.i tell ya Arena was hard on the players.did the US play their best .no!!!..... but it could ahve been much word Czech Rep is ranked number 2!!... we are mistakenly ranked #5!!!!!!......waht we have to realize is that we are not that good.....YET!!! we will be.......we are not #5 good, but we are progressing at a fast rate......soon within the next 10 years we can be up there with the Czech
tp793
Re: Soccer I totally agree with you JG.. the United States has arguably the best team they have had in years, but still not worthy of their number 5 ranking. Good, yes, #5, no. There is a lot of young talent coming through the system though, mainly focused around Adu, but come next World Cup, or possibly the one after that they should be worthy of a #5 rank. However!! they still have matches to be played and a lot can happen in Germany..
jdickey
Re: Soccer The World Cup ranking for the US is more realistic... #11! The #5 ranking is by FIFA .. and Lord knows what they use for the "GPI". I still think that the US 2002 team was a better team overall. I have not been impressed by this team.... yet! tp793
Re: Soccer Anyone else watch the USA v. Italy game? Looks like Brucey finally lit a fire under their butts. Completely different team then the Czech game. The red cards were a little extreme IMHO, Popes second yellow completely undeserved but I can see where Mastreonis red came from, cleats up and not even close to the ball is way to dangerous. Unfortunately they got there butts in gear a little late and its going to take a miracle to advance..

jgbennett6
Re: Soccer Then dont post if you dont enjoy it........I dont care for football.all those guys wearing pads, but i dont reply on those threads Yeah the reds got a little out of control however Eddie Popes was almost needed.he came into that tackle two footed which is an automatic yellow, unfortunately that was his second equaling the soft red. oh well.......still the best game i think the us has ever played in a world cup. [/ QUOTE ] IMO the refs for everyone of the games in this worldcup have called to much. At some point you just have to play. Anyway that PK was crazy i didnt see a thing that should have given a PK. We had an attack today and atleast played. Just didnt have enough to win it. Other than that Ghona did have a good team. There fitness wasnt as good as ours it looked like they were sucking wind a couple of em by the end of the game. Guess we will wait till the next one eh? Ghana had an awsome game.and US had the opportunities......what is killing me is all of teh diving that is happening....
