jdickey
Re: Soccer Sorry to see the USA go out today... but was not surprised , I have not been impressed with their "attack" for the past two years.... they have nothing for any defender at World Cup level to have to worry about! The sad thing is that the USA was again a victim of the officiating. These officials are selected by a FIFA committee from the names submitted from each of the regions. Many of these refs do not get enough game exposure on an international level, consequently are not accustomed to the styles of play.... plus FIFA has given them instructions about what FIFA wants done... each ref interprets those instructions on his own. Sadly too, the world's best referee resigned early in the year. Italian, Pierluigi Collina has long been thought as the best.... Now the second round starts.... I still see Brazil vs Netherlands in the finals!
tp793
Re: Soccer Totally agree with everything you said jdickey. EXCEPT for the Netherlands in the finals. They are an excellent team but I think entirely to much weight is resting on Vaan Nistlerooij's shoulders and at this level of play, you need more than a few players. Brazil is basically smooth sailing into the finals and I would love to see them play England, however the performance England put on yesterday was well...less than finals worthy. Should definetely be an interesting Cup!!
jdickey
Re: Soccer Well... I'm gonna be forced to change my prediction for the finals.... saw the bracket today.... and no way for the Netherlands and Brazil to play each other in the finals! So I'm gonna say it will an all South American finals.... BRAZIL vs ARGENTINA..... Brazil wins!
jdickey
Re: Soccer England winners today! Best team play I've seen from any team so far. David Beckham knocks in the winning goal... England wins 1- 0 over Ecuador!

jgbennett6
Re: Soccer It was a good game..However I think Beckham is useless on a soccer field unless there is a free kick.....it was a well placed shot...good game
tp793
Re: Soccer Are you serious? What about the ball he put on Ronaldo's foot from 60 yards away between two defenders that resulted in a goal? Beckham is not having one of his better years, i'll give you that, but definetely not useless on a soccer field.
tp793
Re: Soccer oh yeah, did anyone happen to catch ronaldo's goal today during the brazil ghana match? it was unreal, goalie never had a chance.

arrow32
Re: Soccer IMO Beckham is not as good as everyone makes. Come on yeah he has got the kick and can get you the ball and thats all good. But what about when he needs to get the ball back it looks like he steps out of the way sometimes. jgbennett6
Re: Soccer sorry... but he is not as good as everyone thinks, at one time ..when he was quicker he was good.he is not known for his moves or his speed or his mental game..........He is know for being able to put a ball where he wants.which to me is a good quality to have but its one out of at least 6 that makes a great player..... Go back and watch the match. tell me how many offensive runs came from England Right half of the field... not may, thats because he could not keep pace and push foward........ He is better than i am however i'm jsut saying he is pumped up way to high....... kind of like Donovan
arrow32
Re: Soccer Good way to put it. Looks like a sissy running around out there. But he can put the ball where he wants it most the time.
tp793
Re: Soccer ok, i do agree with his like of aggressiveness, but his ability to assist and put the ball on his teammates foot is remarkable. As good as people say, not even close, and again i do agree he is like donovan in that way. They both have had their points of excellence where they looked like a stand out player and are both starting to fall off. Idk if he is just losing his game, or if the other players are just getting better and better and his age is holding him back.
jgbennett6
Re: Soccer yeah it is more noticeable as of late. I think maybe his social life is more important than his soccer game. Players like Zidane are far and few in between. Its a shame he is retiring
jdickey
Re: Soccer Real Madrid seems to like DB enough to pay him $28 million and I'm sure his wife Victoria doesn't mind it one bit! But, wish there were more players like Zinadine Zidane, he is the total team player! He proved it again today!
