Re: Cricket .22\'s?????

I have a good friend and have had him and is 2 sons over shooting their Crickets. While the rifles are great for small youth, their fit and finish leave a little to be desired.I dont know if it's a kawinkydink or not but both of those Crickets have weak extractors and fail to eject the case about 80% of the time. I dont know if they are still around but I know a few yaers back a rifle named Chipmunk were around and they seemed a little higher quality. just my $.02 woirth.

Re: Cricket .22\'s?????

I looked at little guns for my son for about two months. The cricket was at the bottom of my list for two reasons. It felt cheap in my hands and I didn't care for the peep sight.

I would rank the top ones like this.

1. Henry Mini bolt

2. Chipmunk

3. Nef break action 22/410

4. Rossi break action 22/410

I ended up getting the Rossi because I found one in a pawn shop for $50 I just couldn't pass that deal up.

Kind of wish I had held out for the Mini bolt. It was really cool.

Re: Cricket .22\'s?????

Hope you are not letting a small young kid shoot the 410? I made the misstake of letting my 6 year old shoot it and the recoil on it is as much as any 20 ga and with the cut eye from the hammer, I am lucky to still have a hunting buddy. I went out and got the NEF, much better and the ex few lbs help a lot. Now my 11, 8 (the 6 year old) and 6 year old sons all have the NEF and love it.

BTW, I would take 50 for the one I got but only if who ever is getting it tells me they will never let a young kid shoot it.

When teaching my oldest to shoot, she started out at 6 or 7. I always sat right behind her in a lawn chair, my shoulder pressed firmly to hers. Eases the push, prevents the possibility of the gun slamming back into the child. She started shooting a .50 ml with a downcharged load and a .243 both at about the age of 7.

Don't know if this is directed toward me. If so, know that the 410 barrel has never been put on the reciever and probibly never will be. If she is going to shoot a deer I'll get her a youth 223 or 243.

Re: Cricket .22\'s?????

I got my then 7-year-old son a Davey Crickett two years ago for making straight "A"s on his report card. No extractor/ejector problems at all. The peep sight is VERY accurate. He can bounce a can at 50 yards all day, and 90% at 100 yards. All offhand. Good gun.

Last year, same deal. Got him a Rossi break action .223 Rem. About 1.2" at 100. Hunting coyote and other non-game species on our vacation in Montana starting next week. Hope to get his first deer this fall.

He's ready, and his guns are, too !!
