My Thanksgiving Buck......

Rifle season started Saturday the 20th. I took off this week to try to get a big one. All day hunting from 4:45am to 6:00pm--in the stand all day long. Today, Thanksgiving, it finally happened. I was in the tower stand that over looks my Hamman Farms food plot. At first light I noticed a nice buck feeding on the clover and a smaller buck feeding on the winter mix (brassicas). It still wasn't light enough to shoot--5 minutes away from legal light. I was watching the 2 feed when a doe came running between them--I knew something was chasing her. I look to my right and sure enough here is a bigger buck behind the doe. He walks up to the other 8 pointer--they circle each other and start sparring. Finally legal shooting time arrives. I am now having trouble figuring out which is the largest one because of the fighting. This now attracts another small buck--as now 2 smaller bucks are watching the other two go after it. The 2 bucks finally seperate allowing me to distinguish between the two. I place the scope right behind the shoulder and gently squeeze--the buck circles but is still standing---I squeeze off another one and he falls in his tracks. The other buck just stands and looks at his fallen fighting partner--I honestly think he thought he knocked out his opponent. He then struts off after the doe.

Here is a pic of my 2004 Buck. Shot with a Tikka .25-06 core-lokts.
