What to use in deer feeder?!

I made a deer feeder with 4" PVC pipe and was thinking of a few different mixtures of feed to attract the deer within Camera range, I know most people use shelled corn, I was thinking about corn mixed with Cargils horse and cattle feed I beleive it is called "sweet stuff", it has corn, molasas, oats, I was thinking about a 50/50 mixture of shelled or cracked corn and "cargils Sweet Stuff" . Has anyone use a mixture like this before? I am not only looking to attract the deer to the feeder for Photo purposes but am also looking to aid in antler growth. What do you guys use or what do you recommend?

Re: What to use in deer feeder?!

we use to mix corn and purina makes a "deer Chow" which has all kinds of minerals and what not. Howeve the deer liked the corn way better than the deer chow. They would eat the corn over the deer chow even though we mixed it together. So now we just put corn in them.

Re: What to use in deer feeder?!

I have used Antler King in my spin cast feeder and they tore it up. Its really good for higher fawn birth rate and weight , good for nursing doe and for antler growth.

Once it gets wet its ruined though.

I suggest the moisture proof stuff thats out now. I think made by Purina...

I used whole kernal corn at 1st and they seems to really mow that down too.

I truely think you could put anything in there and they will eat it. LOL

Re: What to use in deer feeder?!

Use corn here at my mineral site some, and have used some horse feed a few times. They will eat the horse feed, but if you are looking to give them some extra nutrition look at something other than the corn. Some good feed manufacturers out there that make feeds specifically for deer. Soybeans are another option that would work well in a feeder, and will give the deer moreof what they need.

Re: What to use in deer feeder?!

I highly recommend the pelletized protein feed that's intended for deer. I'm having excellent results with my supplemental feeding program. Check out this 2.5 year old 8 point from last October. It took about 6 months before the deer really started hitting the protein, but once they did, they were addicted. Now they'll eat it as fast we can put it out. We're feeding 7 to 8 tons of the stuff per year.
