Plot in the process..need help

Recommended Posts

Alright guys here's where I am so far. I sprayed the area with roundup about 2 weeks ago and checked it today and its looking pretty brown. I plan on planting Imperial Clover sometime in August but was just wondering whether or not you think I should dig the ground up now and then let it sit to see what kind of weeds will grow in. And if the weeds do grow back, should I then spray it with roundup again? Any info you guys could provide would be awesome, thanks.

Kyle,

if it sits bare from now to August there will be some weeds there it you do nothing or if you till it now.

But getting started controlling the vegetation like you did is probably not a bad idea.

Every time the ground is worked a new batch of weed seeds will be brought to the top.

Later in the summer there will be less of them germiniating than early in the summer. Unless you happen to have a seedbank of winter annuals built up at the sight.

If it was mine I would leave it as is. Two weeks before you plan to plant, if there is enough weeds to justify it, apply round up again. Then scratch it up and plant.

I would go with a second application of round up for sure, closer to the planting time. Check with Martin(Oneidaman) about optimal planting times in your area. Dont think August would be the best time for clovers, most definitley for sure wouldnt plant them here in August.
