billkay
Re: Elk Tagging Pix "How does one volunteer to help with this?" Actually they invite their Habitat Partners, in hopes of getting more $$ from them. I'm not one but my buddy that is, invited me. "What exactly are the tags and radio collars used for?" Their herd is only a few years old. They are trying to get a better grasp on their habits, range, and how far they will disperse. Some, initially ended up in Tenn and the VA's. "Dart them or net them?" Neither. We were locating herds with a helicopter, than scanning the grass with an infrared scope looking for the calves lying there. Once located, a ground crew races to the scene, driving as close as they can, (Never less than several hunderd yards away, and usually many more, uphill), and following the directions of the copter crew, they guide individual members to the location till they are spotted by the ground person and they are able to pin the calf down, or start the chase. billkay
Re: Elk Tagging Pix Beanman, yes they are. I don't think that any of these herds came from CO however. I think they're made up of elk from Utah, Ariz, and New Mex.
