Strut10
We've been having a nightly visitor around the outside of the house for better than a week......either a cat or a coon. Sooooo............last evening I made a beautiful dirthole set in the Mrs.' flowerbed at the back corner of the house. Figgered that would fix the problem right quick. Well......got up this morning and looked out the back door. I could tell the vermin was caught because there was a bucket at the corner of the house (right beside the trap) that was moved. But the culprit was around the corner. So I loaded up the pellet rifle and took two steps on to the back walk. There he was.....peeking around the corner at me. A cat. A black cat. A black cat with a white stripe running down his back. Awwww.........NUTS!!! So whadda ya do?? Had to take him out right at the back corner (right up against) the house. Now, bear in mind, I live in an old and very NOT airtight farmhouse. Soooo......anyways........it's 55 degrees out and we have the windows on the west side of the house open to blow the stink away. It's actually not near as bad as it could have been. He didn't spray until I shot him and his stream of stink only went about a foot or two. I shoveled out two scoops of dirt where he was and tossed them then sprayed the area down with Odor Free scent eliminator (that stuff is pretty amazing!!). Even an old trapper needs to learn a lesson from time to time: Always expect the worst/unexpected and place your trap an accordingly sufficient distance downwind from the house. He definitely won the battle but I'll ALWAYS win the war.

OJR
Re: Awwww........NUTS!!!!!! If you would have put the trap and the "black & white cat" in a barrel of water or in the river, it wouldn't have smelled at all!
AdvantageTimberLou
Re: Awwww........NUTS!!!!!! This year around my area you see a skunk hit on the road every 2 miles or so. I kid you not, I was surprised the population was that big! This year seems to be the worse for seeing dead ones on the road!!
Newarcher
Re: Awwww........NUTS!!!!!! Mix a solution of 50-50 white vinegar and water and either mop it or spray it out of a windex type sprayer over the area and it will take care of it. Tominator
Re: Awwww........NUTS!!!!!! OK, I want details about this trap, cuz I've got a coon, or 'possum, or skunk getting in my trash, and I'm tired of stinking up my garage until trash day. Congrats on the kill. [/ QUOTE ] You can buy them from Cabela's! Work great! Work on cats also! I catch a cat and give it one good dose of "skunk oil" from Cabela's and send it home to rub on the carpet! If these irresponsible cat owners just let their cats roam and smell up my place, I can send them home smelling just a little also! I have had only one cat come back twice! Very effective!!! LMBO!!! Don, last year my wife pulled to a stop while she was driving because she thought there was a mink by the road. It also had a stripe......Luckily I got the window up in time but it took about a week before we could get in the car without it stinking.
