I wonder if he will start wearing a helmet?

PITTSBURGH -- Pittsburgh Steelers star Ben Roethlisberger, who last season became the youngest quarterback in NFL history to lead his team to a Super Bowl title, was injured Monday morning and has been transported to a local hospital with head injuries of unspecified severity.

"He was alert and conscious," said Ernie Roman, shift commander for the Allegheny County emergency service, told The Associated Press.

Roethlisberger, the team's first-round choice in the 2004 draft, was transported to the trauma unit of nearby Mercy Hospital, a source confirmed for ESPN.com's Len Pasquarelli, but his condition is unknown.

Witnesses told authorities that the player's motorcycle collided with a car near a downtown intersection and that Roethlisberger's head hit the windshield and was bleeding. Roethlisberger has said in the past that he prefers not to wear a helmet when riding.

What is it that saying that Red always calls his son on "That 70's Show"? grin.gif

I know one thing, he will NEVER here the end of it here in the Burgh.

And that's probably a good thing.

Thought Ben was smarter than that. I'd expect something like that from someone like...............Winslow Jr.

Most importantly, hope Ben's OK. frown.gif

Re: I wonder if he will start wearing a helmet?

Last i heard he had a broken jaw, lost some teeth and had cuts all over his face. Pittsburgh should have put something in his contract about this type of thing, perhaps they did i dont know for sure. Riding a bike is dangerous enough, riding one without a helmet is asking for it.

Im now hearing he severely injured both knees from hitting the ground. Anyone else hearing this? Not even a helmet could have helped him on that one.

No, I am listening to two sports talk shows in Pittsburgh right now and nobody has said anything about him hurting his knees. Where did you hear that?

What I find amazing was that just a few days ago in the lounge this was being discussed as to letting your children have a motorcycle!

I think this should be a very good lesson to each and everyone who has one that they had better look out because at any second, it could be your last one!

For those of you who do ride, the day that you figure you have mastered the bike, is when you had better look out because that is time that you start to get careless!

ESPN now saying the knee injury doesnt appear to be serious. Have to wait and see on that one. Was the bike he crashed a sport bike? I just saw an interview of him from last year and he said he didnt drive sport bikes and always drove in a group. Him and Cowher had a talk about this last year, Ben says it was blown out of proportion but you have to wonder, im sure this isnt going to help that situation.

Re: I wonder if he will start wearing a helmet?

Here is an official run down of his injuries from my very reliable sources.....

Broken Jaw

Broken Nasal Cavity/Orbital Bone

Lost Most of His Teeth

Multiple Lacerations on Face & Head

Very Deep 9" Laceration On The Back of His Head

2 Injured Knees (The official report on this one is still vague, it ranges from minor sprains to severe injuries)

He under went an extensive amount of surgery on his face, that is all I know.

For the record, his face did not meet the windshield, it hit the metal directly above the windshield, the very SOLID part of the roof, which explains all the facial trauma. The shatters in the windshield were from his shoulder and hip. All of the lacerations and what not. After absorbing that blow he was flung acorss the hood and on to a curb which is where they suspect the major cut on the back of his head came from.

Regardless, he will definitely be in my prayers tonight, along with his family and friends
