I wonder if he will start wearing a helmet?

Re: I wonder if he will start wearing a helmet?

Whatever it is, it's a shame that he is so young and his career is over. For those of you who think he still has a chance, I am sorry to say you are wrong. If the reports are correct and he did have all of those injuries, he'll not be allowed or cleared to ever play again. He'll spend a few years just trying to walk again let alone run from a 300lb tackle.

Re: I wonder if he will start wearing a helmet?

I highly doubt his career is over. The big news was the knee injuries are not serious, just sprains. Still, these aren't injuries that will heal quickly, and anytime a person suffers this much trama to the head, he's not going to be playing NFL football soon.

I heard some sports talk host saying they think he'll be back by the season opener...not a chance. He'll probably play this season, but it won't be until at least October/November if he's lucky.

Not to mention, there might be a lot more that we don't know at this point.

He's a lucky son of a gun, he could have easily done major brain/neck/spine damage.

You won't catch me on one of those things, that's for sure.

I'd be willing to bet it is you who will be wrong.

I listened to the surgeon this morning on Sportscenter; there was no mention of career ending injuries, no brain, spine or internal damage.

Care to elabrate on this? What does him playing for the Steelers have to do with his injuries?

This could happen to any team. Yes he is a bonehead for not wearing a helmet! If there isnt a clause in his contract, then there better be one the day he gets out of the hospital!!!

Chris is right on this one. He had surgery to his face, thats it. As far as we know right now, he will only miss 6-8 weeks. The doctor said last night that neck, head, brain, spine, and abdomen all appear to be fine.

6-8 weeks is a prayer John. Not to mention how slowly along the organization is going to bring along its yound star QB...also not mentioning the first time that mending face of his gets crack with a helmet-to-helmet hit.

Its going to be a process...not career ending...but certainly career affecting. 6-8 weeks and maybe missing the preseason is wishful thinking. It might happen, but he won't be in Super Bowl winning form at that point, that's for sure.

Thats what everybody said when he nearly got his knee bent in half in San Diego last year. wink.gif

Look, if there is no damage from the neck down this is not going to be a huge deal. He'll have access to the best medical care on the planet pretty much, a broken jaw isnt going to keep him out for the next 6 months. He'll be behind on conditioning, and he'll probably lose weight but he is still going to be ready to play by the opener.

Oh yeah, that's right, Big Ben is invincible...heck, he won a Super Bowl when he was 23 years old. I bet he doesn't even need to wear a helmet while he rides "the fastest production bike on the planet" (according to Suzuki's website)...err...hold on a minute....

7 hours of surgery, deep lacerations, severe facial fracturing...you're right John, he'll be in ship-shape in no time.

And besides, its not like he's going to be getting chased around by 300 lbs. plus guys trying to tackle him...oh wait, he is isn't he....

Well I thought about it, you're right John...matter of fact, Big Ben's selfish behavior didn't at all jepordize the Stiller's chance at a Super Bowl repeat...

He'll be back...better than ever, like you said, he's got access to the best medical attention in the world....they can rebuild him, he will be quicker, stronger, faster....

Muggs that honestly might be one of the dumbest posts you have ever wrote. tongue.gif

Before you start talking nonsense go back and read my posts. Where did I say anything about him being invincible? Its a broken freakin JAW, not knee, not shoulder. Have you ever broken your jaw, nose, or teeth? I have, and I can tell you that I am 100% certain that given the kind of attention he is going to get in the next 2 months he will be able to stand on a football field and throw a ball in 6-8 weeks.

Remember bud, jaws and teeth dont throw footballs. Arms and shoulders do. The season is 3 months away. He could of broken his throwing hand and he would still have enough time to be there for the opener.

Yes he is going to get hit in the mouth a couple times. Guess what? He got hit in the knees after that injury too. Your boy Edwards is going to get hit hard on the leg he broke, just like McGahee gets hit on that knee he completely shredded against Ohio State.

Dude, it's the NFL. Guys get hurt all the time, and you know that. A broken jaw and nose isnt anything compared to broken arm or shredded knee ligaments.

What I am saying is the 7 hours of surgery was to his face. The Dr. was on national TV last night explaining it took so long because they did extra procedures to make sure the injuries would heal as soon as possible.

Bottomline, you don't get smashed that bad by a car and then 8 weeks (even even 12 weeks) later you're running around winning NFL Football games.

don't work like that pal. Hope Charlie Batch can hold down the fort for a while. Even though he didn't tear an ACL, this is going to take some time. A little longer than you're allowing yourself to believe my friend.

Thats what i thought. Thats a lot different then what he told his coach last year. He said he didnt ride sport bikes and always rode in groups becuase it was safer. It's being reported he may not even had a license to drive a motorcycle in PA, they said his learners permit expired in March and he never went back to take the test to become licensed.

As to whether he will play this year, too early to say. Nobody truly knows the extent of the injuries except for the doctors and his family. A broken jaw should heal, Manning played with a broken jaw several years ago. That alone wont shut him down. It will just take a lot of time to heal, and then take even more time for Ben to get into football condiitoning. Just like Bruschi last year. This is all assuming that the Dr.s are telling us everything, which isnt always the case.

Re: I wonder if he will start wearing a helmet?

OK, knucklehead #1--that's you Eric, and Knucklehead #2--that's you John, please spare us. Make a Tinks bet and put your collective money where your collective mouths are.

I'll even help you out, here's the bet: Ben plays or doesn't play opening day.

There.

You're welcome. wink.gif
