This is crazy...

heres the story, last fall my neighbor down the road started a pine tree farm. after having the pine trees in a wile the deer started eating them and so he was issued 25 doe tage to thin out the number of deer, and he fill all the tags before deer season last fall. so right now when I have been running my cameras and going shinning on the atv I have not seen a doe or fawn for the last 3 1/2 weeks, all of the deer have been bucks. so I was wondering, what do you guys think my season will be like, will it be good with all these bucks, or slow because they might move out of the area in search for some doe? what are your thoughts?

Sounds like the buck/doe ratio got whacked big time frown.gif

Early season hunting should be great, while the bucks are still hanging out in bachelor groups, but come the rut, they will be gone looking for does. And if there isn't any does where your at, there won't be any bucks either. JMHO

Sounds like you might need an alternate spot, come rut wink.gif

yea, thats what I was thinking, I got a couple of great spots to hunt this fall besides our farm. like I got permission to hunt 130 acres about 2 miles from my place, thats where the bucks will proble move, some where in that area.

If your area is like my area it's impossible in June to predict what it will be like in October or November. Our deer move around so much, it's unbelievable. I've been here 13 years and I still don't have them patterned. confused.gif

You know, I have well over 100 pine trees, (white pine) and I've never seen a deer eat a pine. Now rubbing is a different story, they continually rub and kill them every year.

Yeah, this one strip I hunted had some young pines in it that were just rubbed bare by the end of the year. Nothing but sticks with a whole bunch of needles around it on the ground.

Deer will eat the tops out of young pines thus stunting their growth or killing it all together. At least they do in Florida...

Going against popular beleif, I would say that your chances of scoring on a mature buck will be better. That is if you use the right tactics. With fewer doe to choose from, the larger bucks will be cruising and be more competitive for what ever doe is hot. If you utilize some mock scrapes your pre rut and rut hunt should produce some big boys. Hunting bachelor bucks in early season should not be affected by the number of doe taken.
