Re: What would you pay ?

Well in canadian funds i would say $400 for a good quality deer head, turkey i don't know about the going rates, but personally if it was over $400 or maybe $450 i would not pay it, and fish for a skin mount $8-9 an inch depending on species, and $10 an inch for a replica. These prices are ones that are common among the good taxidermists with the exception of the turkey.

I paid $350.00 for my deer that included a cape, processing, and scoring. My turn around was 5 months. I know fish around here are $5.00 per inch. I have no idea what a turkey or coyote brings.

Re: What would you pay ?

This is what I pay around here RTF.

A standard shoulder mount is around $400 to $450.

Turkeys are expensive and with the work that goes into them, they should be. The last one I did was 3 years ago at $550. They're probably over $600 now.

Never checked on a coyote or caught a fish big enough to mount yet. I'm still fishing for one that will break the 10lb. mark.

I guess you didn't ask about an elk for fear of someone choking on the price eh? Last time I checked they were $750 to $1,000.

Re: What would you pay ?

Wow...ya'll pay a lot for mounts!!! shocked.gif I would say AVERAGE deer head around here costs $275. I am paying $300 for my "competition" mount (he does more work around the eyes, etc., puts in a septum). He charges $250 for a "regular"deer head. Know of a guy that charges $195 for deer head also. He does not tan though. They look good, but for how long is the question. Buddy pays $350 to have taxidermist Brent Gorman do his deer. (if you search that name, you will come up with a couple taxidermay awards).

$350 seemed steep to me, I just went with someone else.

Not sure what the turks are going for....fish are $7 per inch w/ $100 minimum.

Right now, I am glad I live in OK....you guys are getting ripped off!! shocked.gifgrin.gif

Re: What would you pay ?

I paid $240 for my fish, it was a 15lb striper, got it back in 2 months. That place charges around $375 for deer, and this is where I will take mine. They did an awesome job on my striper, and have seen their work for mounts. Turn around on deer could take up to 1 yr though. You okies remeber the buck killed last year around Stillwater, score 214, they did it, and man, they did a heckuva job!

Re: What would you pay ?

Think the last deer I paid to have doen cost me $275 and that was Jan of 2003. Turkey I honestly dont know, think if I remember right the same taxidermist was going to charge me $325 for a full strutting turkey, but I have yet to kill a turkey. Have never asked about a coyote, but was going to have a bobcat mounted once but never did. Anyways think he said the cost would be the same on the cat as a shoulder mounted deer.

Re: What would you pay ?

I am paying $330 to have my deer mounted. I am crossing my fingers because I have never used this man before (have seen his work on a friend's mount and it looks good), but I shot the deer just below the eye, so he has some work to do to fix that. If it comes out good I will be sure to tip well! Not sure what he charges for the other stuff....

Re: What would you pay ?

I payed $300 for the one I shot 4 yrs. ago and wasn't completely pleased with the outcome. The guy that did it had done one for my dad that turned out very nice, but on mine the rack got put back on a little crooked and the ears look kinda funny.

I am paying $295 for the buck I shot this year. This is where most guys from my area take their deer to. I have seen his work and he does an excellent job and deer and turkey. Not sure exactly when I'll get it back but it will be within the next 5 months.

A guy I know shot a deer a few years back and it took 2 YEARS for him to get it back from the taxidermist.

Re: What would you pay ?

There are two guys that mount em for $175 bucks right here in town. I don't care for their work. The guy that does mine charges $260 but the quaility is great. I can't find a flaw on the one he done for me 5 years ago. I look hard at mounts when I can, and haven't found one yet that looks better than mine( as far as quaility). I don't mind spending the extra $75 bucks he charges, 'cause he is good. His turn around time is 3 months, which believe it or not, is long here.

I found a website of a guy in Ky that looks to be top notch on turkeys. www.kentuckystrut.com , his work looks awesome! $450 for any pose as listed. There is several, walking, feeding, roosting, gobbling, strutting, and so on. I can get it done here way cheaper, but the work dont look that good. I will be UPS shipping him a turkey this spring ( Lord willing).

Hey RTF, do u you know what it might cost to ship a frozen turkey about a 100 miles? What will i ship him in?

Hey Kotten, my inlaws live on Crumhorn MT and my nieces and nephews go to Schenevus schools so did my wife.

nubs, the best way to tell about shipping is to weigh the bird. Now goto Fed Ex .Com and put that weight in The zip code to ship to from yours is 13810 You must ship all frozen items overnight express .
