Re: Wisconsin gun hunters...

I'm going back out tomorrow. I think I'm just frustrated because I haven't seen anything on stand for almost two whole seasons.

On Thanksgiving morning on my way to the tower blind, I saw two deer--two large does or one doe and a small buck--couldn't get a good look at it's head.

They were borderline shot as far as I'm concerned, right on the property line, and up on a hill. From my vantage point, it looked like if I shot, the slug would go into the hill, but it was too close--it could've gone over into the other property--which was out of my line of sight.

I even put the crosshairs on one of them, but it was just too iffy...

Of course, part of me regrets not shooting...but I think I did the right thing. At least I know that at 75 yards or so, they couldn't smell, and didn't see or hear me.

Re: Wisconsin gun hunters...

I think I stated in a post, earlier this year, that I thought our deer numbers were down, could just be guys are more prone to sitting than driving. Anyhow, went out opening AM after working all night, sat for two hours then fell asleep. Woke up to see a doe run past, about 5 minutes later a nice (thought he was 120") came barreling through the swamp on the same trail, heading for the swamp... He was cutting away at a slight angle, so all I saw was a very tall left rack and I could see the base of the right, When he stopped in the tall swamp grass, I poked him. As he lunged away, I realized that the right main beam was broke off just beyond the brow tine (suck). Left main was 19" with a 9 1'2" G2, scored roughly 50", could have been a really nice deer. Best of luck to all of you... Head to Iowa on Thursday, hoping to bring home daddy.

Re: Wisconsin gun hunters...

Missed a nice 10 pointer on day 2, thick brush. Cousins brother-in-law dropped him when he hit an open field.

Wednesday I dropped a nice doe. She flopped on the ground, and knocked over the doe that was along side of her. I shot at what I thought was the other doe as they got up and ran off. Turns out, I hit her again. Man those Brennekes really did a number on her. Alot of bloodshot in the front shoulder area after 2 slugs hit about 2" apart. Lost a bit of meat on that one.

Overall, we got 6 bucks, and 6 does for the group.

Re: Wisconsin gun hunters...

6 in our group this year and we had 7 deer by the end of the opening weekend. 2 bucks and 5 does. Things got pretty quiet until Thanksgiving day when our group took out 3 more, one buck and two does. That was it until the last day, one more doe added to the harvest.

Overall we had a good season in WI. In spite of a few missed opportunities. But thats part of hunting too. smirk.gif
