Re: buck growl

I was able to produce a call like that a couple years ago on a true talker not as good as the asctual call but it worked and drew in a nice 8 pt. my buddy was the shooter but made a perfect 15 yrd. shot and he only went 35 yrds. and tipped over. I do believe in this call and it could work. it is just like the snort wheeze it is timeing. and hope you make the deer curious.

Re: buck growl

I saw this on one of the Drury videos I got recently. My thouhts are that you can make a similar sound with any grunt call.

When I was learning how to use a duck call I watched a how to video video and the guy was saying that when the ducks are leaving do whatever you want to with your calling because they are either going to keep going or they might turn around. I used that philosophy when calling in deer. I have had 2 times where I had a good buck that just wasn't paying attention to my calls and had gone past me and was definitely leaving. In those cases I have taken my grunt call and blown into it as hard as I could to make an extremely loud grunt. Both times it turned those bucks around, one of which ended up at the taxidermist grin.gif

To me when I watched the footage it wasn't the "growl" that they made it was the volume that they used. As far as that sound making all the other deer come out of the woodwork, well IMO it has alot more to do with the doe in heat as opposed to the sound the buck made.

Re: buck growl

Thanks for the tip. I have been a Drury fan for years, and like their calls. I'm like some in here who think maybe they can reproduce it on their regular grunt tubes. If not I might pick a new one up. I think of all the hype "the Can" brought on when

sold. smirk.gif Never too old too learn. LOL

Re: buck growl

Skeptic... convenient that a deer call company "discovered" this sound. Also, as much as i like the Drury bros. i can no longer trust hunting videos for actual video clips. They could doctor those so easily to make it seem that the buck came running to the call. A little editting here, a little editting there. Who knows if thats actually true, but i would do that if i had to sell product.

Re: buck growl

Just what I need: another piece of stuff to put in my backpack (LOL)!!!!! Hardly any room in there the way it is already. I don't thionk they make backpacks any larger then mine and if they did I would not be able to get to the woods without assistance. HUM, not a bad idea!!! Golfers have caddies to carry the clubs! How about me getting a caady to carry my backpack, decoy and bow to the stand for me!!!

Good luck to all

Re: buck growl

First off I really enjoy the Drury videos and it would be the highlight of my deer hunting career to ever get picked to join their team. However, I am not sold on the "Growl". I believe you can make a very close sounding sound on a normal grunt call. Its a sound I will attempt and check out this fall during the peak of the rut but I dont believe you need a separate call for it. JMHO!

haha, I agree with pointing dogs rule, there are so many gadgets out there nowadays and it's getting crazy, but, we the hunters are making it just as crazy as well. My pack is full too pdr, but maybe i'll get one too who knows! Good luck to all!

Re: buck growl

I've heard tending grunts on the H.S. True Talker video that sounds like the growls on the commercial for the buck growl. I guess I could get it as stuffing so my scent bottles don't shake around in my pack and break.

The video link provided above is from my online store. I can tell you demand for this call is very high.

That is great for you. Will be interesting to hear some more on this call after this season. I kind of wonder what kind of responses guys are going to be getting with this call in areas where say the buck to doe ratios are not so good.

Re: buck growl

Watched the video on Deer & Deer Hunting TV. The vocalizations that the Drury's picked up were OK. But the one that the regular "Joe" sent in was awesome.

Honestly, if I was sitting in the woods and I heard the growl that one buck made....I'd either think "Wow, that sounds like bigfoot." or "What's my fastest path out of these woods and will it lead me in the direction that sound came from!"

Probably won't buy it......................

.........this year.grin.gif
