Guest CWhitfill
Re: buck growl I heard this noice once several years ago. It came from an unseen source about 10 minutes after I witnessed a huge fight between 2 bruisers, therefore I belive it's legitimate. I have called in sevral big bucks with a variety of calls. I will certainly try it.
Guest 120plus
Re: buck growl Sounds more like a roar than a growl to me. Kind of like the roar a Red Stag makes.

Guest sarafitz11
Re: buck growl Hey guys! I have just recieved this call as a gift this week from my dad. Just like all of you i was curious. So I took the call into Daniel Boone National Forest and called. Immediately, I could hear deer movement! A deer came almost running toward where I was. I assume it was a buck, but I never got to see the dern thing. (Not enough leaves had fallen) But my confidence in this call is growing. I intend to use this call during gun seaosn. NY911Bowhunter
Re: buck growl [ QUOTE ] I plan on trying it out this season as well, probably during the heat of the rut. [/ QUOTE ] Don't wait that long! I have the Primos Buck Roar. I was able to use mine yesterday, much earlier than I anticipated; I had just watched 5 does cross in front of me - out of range, headed to their bedding areas. Then I notice they are running around in circles, but not acting alarmed......Hmmmmmm.......... then I hear it... GRUNT.....GRUNT.....GRUNT! NO WAY! It's opening day, not the pre rut! Sure enough....through the Sidewinders I see a flash of bone! There is a buck nosing does! ROCK ON!!!! by now I am on my feet - excited as all get out! I can't make out what he is, but I assume it is a young buck feeling out his "urges".... Finally I see him, on the field edge, working a scrape! I REALLY don't call much this early in the season, but this year is different...I decide, Why not? I reach for the Primos Buck Roar and watching through the binos, I let out a snort wheeze. He throws his head up in my direction like a rocket! The, like he is on a string, heads right to my tree! YES! I had some time to look at his rack more - good buck! He was not wide, and spindley, but his beams were real LONG! I make out at least nine points, not counting his broken, or lack of one brow tine. It is not uncommon for bucks around here to NOT have brows at all. He started to circle around me, but diverted back up to the does. I grunt a few times, then "roar" at him. He looked again, but more importantly, didn't spook. Hmmm. Another snort wheeze brings him right in on a string. By now, I figure, this buck and I have history, and the freezer is empty, and those beams.....I decide he must die. Now the QDMA guys might jump on me, but hey....I like a good fight. But even the best laid (instant) plans.......like he has read all of the hunting magazines, he circles behind me - DOWNWIND! I care not, as I am Scent Blockered up and sprayed down real good, but what worries me is the fact that the area behind me is real thick - we purposely hung the stand here because of that. Did I mention that by now I am freezing, and shaking from that and the thought of all the pictures of me and my buck I am going to litter the forums with! By now, he is at 25 yards and I get a good look at his body - I put him at 2.5 years......but he has still gotta die. Unfortunatley, he is behind a big wooly bush with no shot opportunities. not seeing what he was looking for, he turns and walked away. WHAT A SIGHT THOUGH! Reall good beams. I am convinced that if I had a decoy, you would be looking at pics of him and me (with several stragicly placed products from Trophy Ridge, Vortex Optics, Rocket Aeroheads, and Mossy Oak! ) I sat another hour and packed it in - freezing cold (and getting "near leg cramps"). What a cool morning!
womanwhohunts
Re: buck growl I seen it on the Deer and Deer Hunting program a couple days ago.The fellow had shot a doe and this buck comes in and starts to plow into it,picking it up off the ground, almost like he's trying to kill it.He was making that growling noise and more bucks came in and one even chased that one off and went on to lick the downed doe.It is a weird sound for sure.I have heard all kinds of grunts and such in the woods but nothing quite like that.I wouldn't even beleive it if I hadn't heard/seen it for myself. We recorded it and have been playing it back trying to make the sound ourselves.LOL.The dog thinks we're crazy and leaves the room or barks at us every time we play the video. LifeNRA
Re: buck growl I bought the Primos Buck Roar tonight. I got my normal grunt call out. Watched the video, and tried to make the same noise with the grunt call only. It was peaking out to a point where it started to sound like a DUCK call! But the buck roar kept its deep low tone the entire time. I have had deer grunting before but never like this. But hey! I am up to a test! The "Can" turned this years six pointer into my first bow kill. Now that my buck tag is filled, I have two doe tags to play out the rest of the rut. So maybe Ill ROAR at them a bit and see what they do! Ill post some results if any.
sskybnd
Re: buck growl i wonder if it would work in blind calling or do you think you have to see a buck first to get him to come to it.
Guest hoythunterbn
Re: buck growl hey man yeah they growl it is a very emotional call similar to the grunt but louder and with a slightly dirrerent meaning it is a territorial call but it is also used to show a frustrated buck chasing a hot doe and getting impatient i have the promo dvd that they made for it and there is a nice 130 class buck on there he is standing over the doe that a guy just shot she is in estrues and when she lould not get up he started flipping her with his horns and making the deep bellow that m.a.d. calls named the growl but within ten minutes of this buck making all of this noise about eight to ten medium sized bucks come in and one nice eight pointer comes out chases the ten point of and starts pawing at the doe trying to get her to stand up i recon but i hope this story helps i bought the call but it is still way to early in mississippi to use it although it does make a great grunt.. Guest hoythunterbn
Re: buck growl hey yeah in the video when they try the call they use it with a little rattling to bring in a nice tall nine point just through blind calling hope this helps you guys some i personally cant wait to give it a try in my own experience with the calls mad calls grunt snort wheeze call actually makes a more authentic noise compared to the one in the video but hey i recon that they made it for a reason..
