Re: .22\'s

Marlin and savage both make good products. You hear a lot of good press on Savage larger Cals but not much on the plinkers. They are well worth the money.

As far as getting a new one, I would spend the money on a 10/22 for my next rifle. They are very hard to beat. Later you can trick them for very little. EBAY has a ton of upgrades for VERY good prices.

If youre getting one with no possibilities of upgrading as John said, the Marlin is also a great choice.

bigbuck, what kind of action are you looking for, ( semi auto, bolt, ect. ) ?? As far as the 10/22, most have to invest more $$ to achieve decent accuracy. frown.gif

But it was fun and worth it. grin.gif

Green Mountain 20" heavy fluted barrel.

Hogue Stock.

Volquartzen Hammer.

Bolt recoil buffer.

A dab of JB Weld and a couple springs.

Now with these modifications it feels like an adult size gun. The factory carbine stock was way too short for me. I was originally only going to replace the stock but I figured it would make a good winter project so I ordered all the goodies and put it together. Once done I took it to the range and fed it some Winchester Dynapoints. I was really happy with 1/2" groups @ 50 yrds. My next move is to dump the cheapo Bushnell scope thats on it and upgrade to something better.

Was it worth it? Yep!!, it probrably would have sat in my safe for another 12 yrs without being fired if I wouldn't have upgraded it. Now it just sits because there's too little time and too many gun that rank higher on the priority list to work on. grin.gif

semi auto is what i would prefer

You can buy a Remington 597 semi. It in most cases alot more accurate out of the box than the 10/22.

If you like to add and tinker with parts, than the 10/22 is up your alley. Make sure it fits, the 10/22 is short and fits the kids better than adults. They are both decent .22's.

With most scoped Ruger 10/22s you can shoot nickels at 50yds all day long. If this is good enough for you, have at it.

Ensure the contact between the barrel and stock is absent and this will help.
